Shattered Ankle Bones

Posted By Samrunner (Holyoke, MA) on 07/15/2012

My mother recently had a car accident and the doctors said that her ankle was shattered. They pieced it back together best they could with pins and needles I think. Now, I asked my mother if her ankle started healing, in the current condition (placement of bone fragments), would that be good? She said yes. I asked her that because I don't want her bone to heal if it is not pieced together correctly. She wants more information on Comfrey or other remedies for this. She of course wants to avoid amputation altogether if possible. A doctor did hesitantly suggest it to her, but she wants a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion, naturally. Now my question is, if we try Comfrey, what is the best ointment or bottle of allantoin that I can buy? We of course want it to be safe, because we have heard about the safety concerns of comfrey. I understand, probably the best application would be the leaves themselves, but I live in Pennsylvania and my mother lives 400 miles away in NY state, so if I could get her a bottle of Comfrey extract or something similar, that she could apply herself, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much Earth Clinic!

P.S. I have been using your site for years and I greatly appreciate all the help you have given me over the years

Hi, Your mother can take the homeopathic form of comfrey, which is taken in Europe for broken bones. It's called Symphytum Off. (which stands for Officinalis) Horsetail and nettle herbal tea contain silica, calcium, magnesium, and other minerals and dark leafy green vegetables cooked the way she likes them are full of calcium and other minerals that encourage bone healing. She should also take some Vitamin D-3, also called cholcalciferol, every day. Vitamin C is useful for carrying oxygen to the cells and preventing infection, and ginger in her cooking, or as tea will reduce inflammation. Hope this helps.
