Will Vinegar Without the Mother Work?

Posted By Anne (Southampton, England) on 03/22/2008

I'm a new convert to the benefits of ACV, and I've recently started on a bottle of organic ACV I found. It does not contain the "mother" of the vinegar, however it has not been pasteurised either - simply filtered. The reason I bought ACV was to speed up weight loss (with healthy eating and exercise), and I wanted to know - is the mother necessary for this? I read somewhere that a big part of ACV for weight loss is the pectin, which is in apples, so I don't know if the mother, which grows with the vinegar, is the main cause of burning fat or not (though it is very nutritious, I know). Would I have the same weight-loss benefits with/without the mother?

everything I have read on here says it has to have the mother in it, the apple fibers that "do the work" of the ACV. If yours doesn't have it, don't despair. Some great uses for your vinegar include: -use in lieu of bleach in a washing machine, use before shampooing (1/2 c, 1 cup if you have long hair) to clarify buildup in your hair, use to de-scale your kettle and showerhead. I covered the bottom of my kettle with it and let it sit for 1 hr, clean as a whistle afteward.
