Hi Rob, High dosing of Vit. C doesn't work for every type of body, though can work amazingly well for some. What I have found works well for many is the herb Olive Leaf. It is fantastic for all virally-based infections and for overall liver health. It is renowned for its effectiveness with Herpes-related infections of all kinds (including Shingles).
I'm including a link for an article written by a U. S pharmacist for over 70 years. Of all the treatments he's aware of for Herpes, Olive Leaf is the way he advises to go. Pretty impressive statement from a pharmacist!

Hi Deborah, I have been taking 3 capsules of olive leaf extract for just over two weeks now and just had my biggest outbreak yet :( so I am not sure if it works for me like the Vitamin C and has no effect on me as well. RobReplied by Deborah (Chino Valley, Az) on 03/16/2012
Hi Rob, I'm sorry to hear of the outbreak for the discomfort I'm sure it caused you, but want to encourage you not to give up. It is not uncommon for someone to have an extra-difficult outbreak as the body tries to clear itself of the virus. Remember that the skin is an organ of elimination, thus when it is trying to rid itself of something it will often appear worse. This is not true of every skin issue, but with a virally-based issue it is not uncommon at all. So don't give up too soon or become discouraged.
Also, your system might require a little additional support. If it was me, I would add in about 20 - 30 mg of zinc picolinate each evening with food to boost the immune system (zinc is often indicated for people who are working to clear herpes infections). I would also add in something a bit stronger than Olive Leaf to work with it as well, and that would be Oil of Oregano. Best brand of oregano oil I've come across is Oreganol, but there may be others.
So between the Olive Leaf, Zinc Picolinate and Oil of Oregano you will have a pretty potent combination of substances. Do not be discouraged if a difficult outbreak occurs as your body tries to heal itself. As the link above describes, the same thing happened to that reader and I have definitely seen this happen to others.
Be persistent, I'm sure you will find what helps you the most.

First off, all vitamin C are not equally effective. I was taking Vitamin C capsules, then I read about a Vitamin C that is equivalent to getting a vitamin C IV. Lypo-Spheric is a liquid packet Vitamin C - it is the strongest oral Vitamin C ever. It has nanospheric particles are absorbed fully into the liver.
