What To Do After Receiving a High CAC Test Score?

Posted By Liz (Arizona) on 09/22/2022

I hope someone in this community can help because I have done extensive research on the web and YouTube and couldn't find the answer to my question.

Recently, a family member did a "Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring" and the results came back with a score of 700! The articles and videos I watched had different viewpoints. Some doctors say this test is only a scare tactic and you shouldn't get it done. If you do, you don't need to get it redone for another 5 years or more. Another article said that sometimes high CAC scores can still result from "normal" Triglycerides. All so very confusing.

The doctor recommended a Coronary CT Scan but we didn't feel comfortable with that because it has radiation score of 8.7sv according to this radiology website (https://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info/safety-xray). Since we didn't want him to be exposed to this much radiation, the doctor is now recommending a Nuclear Stress Test which involves receiving an isotope injection which has its own side effects.

1. What is the best test with lowest side effects to diagnose narrowing percentage of the artery?

2. Are any of the tests mentioned above above worth doing (benefits outweigh side effects)?

3. Is it necessary or recommended to do any additional tests?

4. What is the best holistic remedy for a high CAC score or narrowing of artery?

I know this is a lot but I really want to help my family member and don't know what to do. I really appreciate and value the "like-minded" people in this community.
