The dentist asked me if I had diabetes. I don't, but have probably been eating too much sugar and noticed after eating it I am exhausted/lethargic. I am not overweight and don't have a history of diabetes in my family at all.

Boron stops the excreation of Calcium by 40%.. The lack of this causes bone loss in older people. That and vitamin D to help bone formation would go a long way to help. Mind you, dentists when considering teeth implants, like to put a bone graft in to hold the post for the tooth implant. This would give the dentist a few more dollars in the treatment.Replied by Debbie (Melbourne, Australia ) on 09/17/2011
Curiousgeorge, you may have a calcium/magnesium deficiency and that is why you are losing bone. Normally everything happens because of some sort of mineral deficiency so you may want to research that further.
You could try taking calcium and magnesium 2:1 ratio in supplements and also take superfoods like spirulina/chlorella and even a colloidal mineral that has the minerals in the right ratios. Juicing green vegetables is good for calcium and magnesium. Also make sure you get sun exposure each day. Also wheatgrass juice is good for vitamins and minerals and vitamin D as well.

In addition to the other remedies above... (also, you see a little above your post how oil pulling helped.)
Start taking CoQ10, I take 100mg before bed... there is much on the web about it's benefits for gums.
You also might consider Pycnogenol or it's generic form Maritime Bark Extract (cheaper) just for it's anti-oxidant and increased micro circulation ability. It is known to help speed up wound healing.
Diabetes or not, it is a good idea for all to decrease their glycemic load... Cut out the sugar and simple carbs... simple diets of raw and lightly cooked vegetables and whole grains...
Of course if you smoke...quit...
Weight bearing exercise is known to increase bone density..
A recent study on how berries (at least in rats) increased bone density.. http://www.drweilblog.com/home/2011/9/6/berry-good-news-for-bones.html
I have also posted before, how I rub my floss with a little essential oil mixture... Base of olive with cinnamon and clove, thyme, .. Etc... Sometimes I use a Theives oil recipe on web... (This is only recent so I can only confirm it might help after a few more visits to the dentist)

Thanks for the responses. I have one tooth in the front on the bottom that the gums are extremely low on, so much so that it has me concerned. Any idea on how to stop and reverse the gum loss?Replied by Blindedbyscience (Asheville, Nc) on 09/24/2011
High dose Vit C has made a big difference for me. I also mainly use soap for toothpaste or powder. I also did a spell of vegetable juicing always using celery, which has a lot of Vit K. I use ascorbic acid with baking soda or sodium ascorbate powder. Also I cut most dairy out, went from lacto vegetarian to vegan.Replied by Bev (Fl) on 03/24/2017
Proponents of MMS say that brushing your teeth with activated MMS with a little water added will give you healthy gums. I also cured a beginning tooth abscess adding DMSO to the mms/water mix. The DMSO takes this potion right down to where it needs to be. You've got to catch it early though. I experienced some pain on a molar especially when pressure was applied (as in chewing some food). I applied the MMS/water/DMSO mixture several times during the day. Healed!
