Seeking Remedies for Vesicovaginal Fistula after Hysterectomy

Posted By Bella (California) on 11/28/2017

I am 48 years old, due to a 12cm cyst on my ovary which was causing a lot of pain I decided to do a full hysterectomy (I had been peri-menopausal for 3 years prior the operation) It has been 28 days since I had the operation which it was abdomen hysterectomy, my bladder has been leaking all this time, now the doctor said I might have a vesicovaginal fistula (ie. some urine is leaking through the vagina), for that reason I am wearing diapers 24-7 now. The bladder is very swollen all the time and it is really painful, (or at least it feels like it is the bladder)I am in bed most of the day I can´t barely get up. I have to wait until February to see if the fistula finally formed to get operated again. Is there any suggestion on what to take that might help the bladder fistula to close and that way eliminate another operation, plus what will help for the inflammation.

Thanks

Dear Bella,

I am so sorry. This sounds miserable. I have been thinking about what might help and am sorry to take a while to get back to you.

Castor oil packs over the lower abdomen may help reduce inflammation in the bladder and relieve pain. It promotes circulation and may promote healing of the fistula as well. I have used them nightly for pain with much success.

I wonder if comfrey would help with the fistula? If you could get a quality comfrey salve and use it vaginally a couple of times a day it may help. That would be, if it is okay for you to use something vaginally, given this issue.

Red raspberry leaf tea is tonic to the female organs. Several strong cups a day would be nourishing.

Let me know how it goes.
