Very distressed nothing is helping with vitiligo

Posted By Shweta (New Delhi, India) on 03/19/2015

Hi all, I am suffering from vitiligo for the past 3 years..I have consulted to all big dermatologists here in India but not got much help..The docs are more interested in filling their own pockets rather than thinking about their patients..They get expensive blood tests done, give drugs and ointment full of steroids. My vitiligo is spreading. I have also tried ayurveda and homeopath but nothing seems to be of much help. I am getting psychologically so weak. I just don't feel like going anywhere. I am just sick of hiding my patches.

If anyone has got cured please share what has to be done? Thanx...Shweta

Dear Shweta,

I am sorry you are having this discouraging difficulty!

Have you tried Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, topically? It seems to be something that has helped some people on this forum. You would rub it in to affected areas twice a day.

I would also take it internally. Start with a couple of teaspoons and work up to 3 Tablespoons a day, if it suits you. Some put it in their coffee. (1 Tablespoon per mug.) Others put it on toast. I have put it in smoothies.

Adding a Tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses to your diet each day would also be a good idea. I think of it as an all natural vitamin.

I would give the above a month to see if it helps. If not, there are many other things you could try. Dandelion tea and castor oil packs are a couple of things that come to mind.

Let me know how it goes for you!

My biggest sunken white patch : ( dime sized sunken circle.... I put Kefir on with my finger and let it dry there.
It rose back up to the level of the rest of my skin and shrunk a bit . Only did that one time. That was a few months ago. Guess I better treat them all nightly. Thought it was from childhood scabs from scatching flea bits.

Coconut oil did not work for me, creams did not work for me, vitamins did not work.

Hi,

I am convinced that vitiligo is caused by lack of the neccesary trace minerals and antioxidants. Therefore diet plays a huge role along with stress.

I've had some success in repigmenting over a year doing the following: started with diet rich in greens and probiotics. Took vitamin D supplements. Did regular UVB therapy at home. Further ensured a good nights sleep ( deep sleep). I also took antioxidants such as Gingko Biloba and SOD. Try these religiously with UVB being the most crucial key to the healing. With best wishes,

The following studies suggest that low dose aspirin may have anti-vitiligo effects in humans. Aspirin in these studies is shown to lower proinflammatory mediators that play a significant role in the progression of vitiligo. Aspirin also affects relevant pathways associated with vitligo to add to the positive effects against vitiligo.

Here is a quote from one of the studies:

'The vitiligo activity was arrested in all aspirin-treated patients'.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16047057

It would be interesting to know if topical aspirin cream applied directly to the depigmented areas would have a similar effect.

On a related note, vitamin d has been shown to be helpful for vitiligo according to this study:

In any case, these two common and inexpensive treatments seem worth discussing with your doctor to see if it is something doable for you.
