Turned 40 and advice needed on rosacea

Posted By Angela (Memphis, Tn) on 09/28/2011

I just turned 40 this year, have been diagnosed with rosacea for about 15 yrs now and for the most part it has been uneventful until this summer. I saw a nurse skin specialist (plastic surgeon office) and she advised using metrogel again more often (a few times a week at night) to control the summer oilyness. I also routinely saw my dermatologist who started me on a new cleanser (since the ZNP bars were no longer available- which I've used forever) and a new oral Rx called Oracea, which I believe is just a type of antiobiotic (doxycycline). The new cleanser was a generic Rx of sodium sulfacetamide 9% and sulfur 4% wash. We also went to the beach about the same time I started these new things. Since then, my skin has been on and off irritated- not consistently smooth as before.

This past weekend was the worst, so I stopped using the Rx wash and quit using the Oracea just to go back to square one. Before all of this started, I was using (successfully) Vitamin C cream at night and Retin-A twice a week to help with the wrinkles and age spots but I decided to quit using that for now as well until everything gets worked out.

At this point, I'm trying to figure out what is the culprit exactly- the new Rx's (even though they are supposed to be helping) or do I have a mite as well? internal or external? After reading the other posts, I am wondering if I need to try some Apple Cider Vinegar and Dandruff shampoo as well, but I don't want to irritate things worse-

Please help! -:)

Have you looked internally for the problem? That is your digestion, and your diet because I think any skin condition is a result of what is going on inside you and the toxins are coming out through the skin.

Chlorophyl, spirulina, chlorella, probiotics, digestive enzymes, ACV etc. may be of assistance.

I don't know if it's true - but I heard that it is indeed a mite and that Diatomaceous Earth (AKA fossil flour) applied to the skin will kill the mites.

I don't know how easily it would be applied to a vertical surface, and I would not inhale it or get it in my eyes, and make sure to get the food grade kind NOT the kind at the pool store. I get it at the ranch and farm store in 50 pound bags.

BUT if it is a mite -- wouldn't petroleum jelly or nail polish smother it??? We used to put grease on our pets for mange, which is also a mite, and it worked. And for chiggers we would use nail polish.

Hope you get some relief.

After the Doxy I would definitely get a really good probiotic. Get the one in the green box with a Japanese doctor's name.

Yes! It works, but the mites life cycle is 21 days. I wore a shower cap to bed. We dusted the whole house w/ it and now are treating the pets w/ the borax dips and then dustings. It's messy but works!
