Trying to reduce keloid scar

Posted By Vie (Indianapolis, In, Usa) on 01/05/2013

Hello Earth Clinic Family, I'm hoping you all can help me with my keloid scar. I am a 42 year old African American. I have had three surgeries: two myomectomies (7/2000 & 3/2007) to remove fibroid tumors and a partial hysterectomy (12/2011). My first surgery resulted in a small keloid. With each additional surgery, the keloid has gotten bigger. Currently the scar is approximately 7"L X 1"W X ½"H, going from the bottom of my navel to the middle of my vagina. My scar is still sensitive to touch in some areas. I have been using an over-the-counter Advance Scar Therapy gel for a few months, but it doesn't appear to give me the results I want.

I have read several of the posts, but unfortunately, I'm still not sure which one would be best for me. I have also read an article that referenced SSKI and DMSO, but I'm not sure what these two are, nor do I know how to take or apply. What are SSKI and DMSO? Will these two be best for me or should I use something different? If possible, can you please recommend something I can apply topically and/or take internally that will help reduce/flatten my keloid as well as lighten the color? Please help! Any detailed information you can provide including dosage and where to purchase, will be helpful. Thank you in advance for all your help and advice!!! Vie-01052013.

Hi Vie, I had a keloid scar on my foot from a foot surgery from when I was only 20. My husband had one on his shoulder from when he was a boy from having a large mole removed (which may have left an even nastier scar! ) Anyway, years ago at this point, my dad recommended a brand new supplement called MSM which today, everyone is pretty familiar with. He told me about it because I was always in physical pain from all the ballet dancing I would do. I took it not really expecting much but amazingly, it seemed to miraculously remove the pain! Thus, I began to take it religiously and spread the word to everyone about it. Back then, it was only available orally but my dad would make an msm lotion and give it to me too. Of course, now you can just buy it in the health food store!

Well, I can't tell you how long but maybe a year into it, one day I noticed that my keloid scar was no longer numb (which it had been for years at that point) but also it was flat and almost unnoticeable. We saw the same thing happen with my husband's but not as significantly but his was much bigger.

So, I would suggest you take MSM daily and in powder form because that's the most potent way. You could also use msm topically in a cream or lotion and DMSO. I hope this info helps. Lisa
