She uses some pharmaceuticals but hates the side effects (they worsen her vision, dizziness, cognitive symptoms, fall-risk, etc.), and they only help somewhat. She is now using Lysine (3000 mg/day during exacerbations), but I am concerned about the long-term effects of that, and it did nothing for her most recent trigeminal neuralgia attack-which is ongoing. I just read that the pharmaceuticals that attack herpes do not work well for post-herpetic neuralgia. Is there something out there that can be taken internally to work with the herpes virus specifically in addition to Lysine? I only use natural medicine myself, but I am having a hard time finding something my mother can use. Her hands don't work well, so she cannot apply anything topical.

I would definitely pursue cold laser treatments if you have a practitioner in your area who offers it. The 5th cervical vertebrae and connecting nerves in the neck is where the herpes virus "hides out" and when a person becomes stressed the virus travels down the trigeminal nerves. This is what is believed to be the source of the trigeminal neuralgia pain. The nerves of the face need to be treated as well as the back of the neck. Check it out.
Olive leaf extract 250mg 2 caps 3x/day and 10ppm colloidal silver 5 tsp/day should get it the herpes virus under control.

Teddy, might BHT be an option? Read up on it for viruses.
