Trapped Nerve Pain From Adult Degenerative Scoliosis

Posted By Roy (Devon) on 07/21/2018

Any suggestions please.

I have been diagnosed with Adult Degenerative Scoliosis, which gives me pain in my lower back and down my right leg plus both feet are very numb.

I have had various injections and last December decompression surgery, all of which has not made any difference and the hospital tell me that it is something I will have to learn to live with.

I can only walk or stand for 10 mins and then it all becomes vey painful.

Any help to ease this pain would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Roy, you can try Epsom Salt baths. And/or gently rubbing Castor Oil on the painful areas once or twice a day.

Dear Roy,

While there may be no more that the hospital can do for you, there are many, many things you can try.

It would be helpful to know if you have any other health problems and your age.

I have had scoliosis for 40 years. I have had a diagnosis of degenerative joint disease in the past, even requiring surgery for a very damaged joint in my jaw at the age of 26. (I am 51 now.)

However, at my last chiropractor visit, my chiropractor said that my curve is less than it has been in the past. I had some xrays of my spine over the winter. I was happy to see that while there is evidence of degeneration, it is mild. Given my history, I was pretty happy about it.

So I will share a few thoughts....

First of all, unless you have been instructed otherwise, exercise is very important. Keeping the muscles strong in your back will help the muscles to support the spine. This helps the curve to not get worse. And it can even help the spine to straighten out.

Basic back strengthening exercises and walking have been very beneficial to me. Swimming is also wonderful if it is an option for you.

Secondly, be sure you are giving your body plenty of nourishment. Your bones, joints and muscles use your diet for all growth and repair. Bone broth is very good for the skeletal system. Arthritis and back pain remedies should be considered.

Look up Peter Escogue. He has a website and books with exercises and information about posture that is especially helpful for those with scoliosis.

I am hopeful that you will find things to do that will help you with your serious pain!

Look into inclined bed therapy. It improves circulation of the blood and lymph and has been shown to improve many health conditions, scoliosis being one of them. You might give it a try while you are researching other avenues. It can’t hurt and it might help, and it is free! Wishing you all the best in your healing!

Look up the effects of thiamine deficiency. Also somewhere I read an article that said the muscles of the spine use a special type of carbohydrate that is different from what other muscles use.

You may benefit from avoiding caffeine and artificial sweeteners, too.
