Teds recommendations for preventing glaucoma

Posted By Cynlou (Marshall, Nc, Usa) on 07/28/2011

I have been blind in my right eye since birth. But, I wonder if anyone knows about the probability that this would be passed on to children. I want to have children, I already take probiotics, blackstrap molasses, organic ACV, raw honey, and some other healthful remedies. I just want to know if there is a strong likelihood of passing blindness on to my children. Some have said I have optic hypoplasia, others have said it's amblyopia. All agree my optic nerve didn't develop.

So, my two questions are: will I pass this on and are there herbs/remedies out there to help reduce that chance?

Second, doctors say I am a high-risk candidate for glaucoma. Any recommendations for preventative measures?

Thank you to Ted and EC for such invaluable contributions to this site!!

These days no doubt there would be a test to tell if this is an inherited condition but from our family's experience, I'd say no...

Oh, I forgot to mention, my mother also has glaucoma (which is common in people with sight in only one eye), she has been told to take very high doses of Vit C (3000mg per day) and when she did, her pressure was so much better, she literally had almost a year between visits for a field test. However, she's stubborn and somewhat lazy and gave this up and her pressure is now fairly high again but stable. It might pay to mention, for a long time doctors always denied a connection with high blood pressure (which Mum has) and glaucoma. This seems to be a certainty and I think a few doctors are starting to admit the correlation. Keeping one down may well keep the other down. Give the Vit C a go - you can do no harm with high doses of that...
