Sport loving son has chronic impetigo

Posted By Deborah (Orange, Mass) on 04/10/2015

My son is a wrestler in his high school and I believe this is where he keeps getting his recurring impetigo problems, the doc puts him on an oral antibiotic, it goes away and then sooner or later comes back. I do know that playing sports especially sports you are more susceptible to this, but won't the antibiotic taken repeatedly stop working after a while? I am going to try some of these home remedies now to see what would help, or he is going to have to go give up his favorite sport.

My son had chronic impetigo. Every little scrape would go bad. It really can be systemic, no matter how clean you are on the outside. I started giving him mass doses of garlic and goldenseal (it has been years, so I forgot how much, but probably 2 capsules of each with every meal - and he was around 5 years old. You would probably need more with a big fella), while applying a liquid tincture of goldenseal topically, and he never got it again. The topical goldenseal liquid was very effective. When scrapes and tick bites stopped getting impetigo, we discontinued the internal regimen.
