Should i wash face with dandruff shampoo for rosacea

Posted By Hannah (Uk) on 01/06/2015

Hi, I live in the Uk. I have found lots of useful info on this forum and thank all those involved for their input.

I developed rosacea about 2 years ago, it came on and off but now seems permanent. I was going through a really bad time then and I drank quite a lot of beer too. Now im fine but my rosacea is getting worse.

With regard to the Dermodex Mites the NHS site and many others state we ALL have these microscopic mites. Its just in some that they colonise in greater numbers, perhaps due to more skin and sebum from the rosacea, or perhaps they cause it. The antibacterial nature of some treatments seems to be the help in reducing the mites.

In desperation and after reading some folks comments I used a cream I had in the bathroom with Miconazole. It made me worse but I only used it for 2 days. I checked this out and apparently true rosacea wont be effected by an antifungal - this cream will work better with dermatitis apparently.

I was prescribed a cream and anti dandruff shampoo by a gp ( I dont have dandruff, like not a bit so this worried me) He said I should wash my face with the shampoo.....this sounds like if anything will damage my face, its washing it with shampoo.

I would be interested to find if there are any other folk who have used this method or should I get a new GP?!

I don't know if its poss to share web addresses but here is the NHS info on the subject of the mites -

Best wishes, Hannah

Hannah, an acquaintance of mine who use to be an alcoholic for 20 years and has terrible rosacea and liver spots on her face needed a treatment that was inexpensive but effective and asked me for suggestions. Well, I suggested she use a product called alpha hydrox. I get the product off the big "A" online for my personal skin regimine here in the states so I suggested she give it a try. It has 10% alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) so, any product with that amount of AHA would do. It is very inexpensive. After about 3 months, her skin is just beautiful. The rosacea and liver spots are about 85% improved. She had been struggling with rosacea for years and this did the trick. One $10 bottle lasts me 6 months....it's not all natural but, it does help to solve skin problems effectively.

Update: To use the alpha hydroxy lotion for roseacea, do the following morning and night.

1. Wash face, neck with your usual cleanser

2. Pat dry

3. Apply small amount of AHA to face. Do not get into eye area.

4. Once dry, apply a bit of coconut oil or your usual face lotion. AHA has a drying effect so I do feel a natural cream or lotion is necessary.

Be diligent...it will work!

Good Luck!

My rosacea has cleared up since using anti-dandruff shampoo. Selsun was recommended, but I just used the Head and Shoulders almond shampoo. I just use a dot and that is enough to get a mild lather up. I gently massage it in for about 10 seconds. My face was terrible - red and blotchy and looked as though I had scratched myself during the night. The condition of my skin improved with the first use. I was amazed. The ointment the doctor prescribed was expensive and didn't work.
