Should i avoid fructose while taking bht

Dear Oscar,

How are you?

I have just read a recommendation of limiting the daily consumption of fructose when taking BHT treatment. It also recommended to avoid fruit juices and dried fruit, and limit the quantity of fruit in general.

Could you please let me know what you think of these recommendations?

Thank you for your time. Sarah

Dear Sarah [ Israel ]: It was NOT fructose that degraded the BHT treatment. It was specifically GRAPEFRUIT JUICE with it's many other compounds that are known to cause problems with a very many other treatments including BHT.

It was Imran's case history that illustrated the effect of grapefruit juice on the BHT treatment for hepatitis C type 2. Imran was struggling along with the BHT treatment with mixed results. His viral load count bounced along in the low zone: up and down but less than one million. But with the numbers steadily going UP over time. I questioned him about what other supplements he was using. He said none. But did mention he was drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice.

I read up on grapefruit juice and learned it had a NEGATIVE impact on a very many treatments for different conditions.

I instructed Imran to stop drinking grapefruit juice and Imran did so. He very rapidly achieved NO VIRUS DETECTED and stayed there for at least four months. I never heard from Imran again after this last report from him.

My conclusion is: Even though grapefruit juice is good for you it DOES degrade the BHT treatment. Both BHT and grapefruit juice are reactive compounds and do NOT work well together. BHT is one compound and grapefruit juice is many different compounds. They just do NOT work well together. The same is true for milk thistle.

If you choose to go the BHT route as a treatment for viral hepatitis you have to make a choice. You have to stop taking other supplements that have proven positive effects taken without BHT specifically.

A standard multivitamin and mineral supplement along with vitamin C work well with BHT. Many other supplements do NOT work well with BHT.

The short answer is: Most other fruit juices work well with BHT but grapefruit juice does NOT....Oscar
