Need Help for Chronic, Itchy Dry Scalp and Body

Posted By Janice (Mississippi) on 09/07/2017

I have been having a huge problem with allergies (of all types), dry itchy skin (like chicken skin) on my back, and intense scalp itch and dandruff. I have very dry, dull, and frizzy hair from so many years of hair coloring and hot irons. Because my hair is so dry, I do not wash it but once a week. But by the end of the week, my scalp, my back, arms, legs itches so bad, I feel like small gnats are landing on me. It even goes up the back of my neck and behind my ears, even on my face and forehead. I shower frequently, and use a moisturizer; helps for a day or so, but I continue to itch. Some Doctors have told me it's dry skin, some say it's my nerves, (which I do have chronic anxiety). This seems to be worse at night. I also have insomnia, so I take Benadryl 50 mg. and valium 5 mg. every night in order to be able to sleep. This has been going on for at least 10-15 years, and I need a permanent fix. So tired of taking all these meds at night, and continuing to itch all day the next day.

I have tried sulfur 8 on my scalp, and a mixture of tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil mixed in coconut oil and applied as a hot oil treatment to my hair. Helped for a day or so, but hated having a greasy head all day. I been using Head and Shoulders, but that doesn't help. I use a menthol lotion for my legs and arms and back; but that only helps for a day or so. What do you suggest? So tired of scratching.

Janice, it might be a way of your body trying to expel stuff it doesn't handle well.

You can try eliminating grains, dairy and sugar for a few days and see if there is any positive difference.
