Help Needed for Severe Stomach Flu That Causes Asthma!

Posted By Diane (Inland Empire) on 07/10/2016

Dear EarthClinic,

My husband and I are senior citizens and both of us came down with a severe stomach flu! Bloating (once my husband's stomach was extended but went back down), heartburn and severe acid reflux and with my husband-- coughing fits. I have read that many people in our nation have had problems with this severe stomach flu.

The problem with us is my husband, he seems to be allergic to the acid reflux that comes up from his stomach and it seems to have attacked his bronchial tubes! This has caused horrible asthma! We have been to the emergency room 3 times due to the asthma. He never had asthma as an adult only as a child. Shots stopped the childhood asthma. Doctors have helped him with 2 different Inhalers, Prednisone, and antibiotics. All 3 have helped him. But this stomach flu just seems to linger.

For 2 months now. He is going to see another doctor the end of July.

I would like to hear from other people that have this stomach flu. And any advice from others that can help our situation.

Thank you, Diane

Could it be acidosis? Perhaps his lymph is attempting to drain into his lungs.

What about inhaling steam several times a day with some essential oils like eucalyptus oil. Just a drop or two. And slippery elm food. This is what I have used for my lung conditions for many years and it helps.

Hi Diane,

I have a theory. From your description, your 'flu' is indicative of a certain strain of bacteria, mold, or fungus that now infects and lives in your intestine; and this 'bad stuff' leads to abnormal fermentation/gas-formation. When gas builds too quickly in the intestines, kinking (in similar to a garden hose under pressure) of the intestine can occur, shutting off the normal route of escape towards the colon. The intestine then further expands like a balloon, often resulting in a very troublesome waste re-emergence back into the stomach. Acid reflux is a result-- and yes, acid/vomit will infect your lungs -- that's why surgeons want your stomach empty before anesthesia.

Anyway, this 'mold/fungus/bacteria as causal to bloating' is my own theory. Correct or not, one agent or path to stopping bloating and acid-reflux I have found is to take D-Limonene (a solvent that is distilled from citrus skins). D-limonene capsules can be found on Amazon (read the reviews). D-limonene kills the nasty bacteria, mold or fungus in your stomach and gut.

Alternatively, a 1/4 TSP of Turpentine, or 1/2 TSP of good kerosene should also work but the limonene is in capsule form, avoids the taste buds of the tongue, and is still listed and sold as safe for consumption.

Years ago, Whenever I experienced the initial uncomfortable signs of intestinal duress, I immediately took a small sip of D-limonene (which I normally have on hand due to my business). My condition generally set-in after the evening meal and before bedtime. If it were me, I'd take one capsule as soon as I obtained the limonene. Thereafter, I would take one capsule with or after the evening meal. In general I would take one capsule per day. 2 or 3 days would find me in perfect relief.

I believe commonly available laundry borax (name begins with "20 mule" is a good one) will also alleviate your condition, though I would continue to take this so-effective agent for a week or two. Ted's remedy (1/4 teaspoonful of borax dissolved in a quart of water and sipped throughout the day until finished) will kill just about any nasty 'critter/s' in your body. Do read up on that remedy, here at Earthclinic ...and also google "Herxheimer reaction".
