What Remedies Will Help Severe Cough From Sinus Infection?

Posted By Matoka (Ca) on 06/08/2017

I have a cough from a sinus infection that is debilitating. I tried various teas, steams, sinus tintures, ginger, turmeric, oils, etc. I have had the cough for about five days. I cough so hard I get dizzy and vomit, from the irritation. I have not tried the nose pot. I can't drive too far because the attacks gives no warning and I'm afraid I will have an accident or pass out in the street. Now my chest is sore from the excessive coughing. Please advise. Thank you

Dear Mantoka,

This sounds like a pretty aggressive sickness and you will probably need to be pretty aggressive to treat it.

Even if you don't have a neti pot you can improvise.

Mix 6 ounces of water water with 1/2 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide (the 3% kind in the brown bottle) and 1 teaspoon sea salt. Pour some of this solution into your cupped palm and snuff it up deeply into your sinuses. It will burn and make you drain. Repeat on the other side.

Or, while on your back, you can use a straw to drip the above solution into your nostrils and it will get into your sinuses (and burn and make you drain a lot.)

When I do the above for a serious sinus infection I do it 4 times a day.

Also, until you heal, no dairy, no ice cream, no sugar, no soda.

Lots of water with lemon or apple cider vinegar.

If you have fresh garlic, you can crush one clove of garlic and take it with some honey 4 times a day. We use that for a natural antibiotic.

Vitamin C and Zinc supplements if you have them on hand would be good.

I hope you feel better soon!
