Maggie: It looks like your daughter needs to make some positive changes in diet and environment. Purifying indoor air & water for starters. Reducing saturated fats, processed foods, and sugars w/ be mandatory. Replace sugery drinks like pops & colas w/ vegetable juice from the grocery. It's a big transition of taste but the body will tell the tongue "give me more veggie juice". Start taking a good multivitamin/mineral supplement like, in particular, an easily available otc brand "Naturemade", one tab w/ every meal.

Dear Maggie,
I agree with the doctor. Folic Acid is very important. The condition her babies have had is a neural tube defect. Folic acid deficiency is a common cause of it. Your daughter should take Folic Acid before conceiving. In fact, all women who could become pregnant should be taking folic acid, because the need for folic acid in pregnancy begins before a woman even realizes she is pregnant in many cases. It is a water soluble vitamin and should be taken daily. 400 mcg daily is what is recommended, although some doctors will recommend more for women who have had babies with nueral tube defects.
Timh has also suggested many things that would be helpful to anyone who is striving for a healthy pregnancy.
I hope you will be able to enjoy grandchildren in the hear future!

Where in the heck has this great university been for the last 70 years. Walla, sugar is evil. No sheet Sherlock.
Well, the nerds have to study something.

Another item I know M2M will agree is to avoid Tuna before-during-after pregnancy as toxic Mercury can accumulate in the body and reek big damage. On the reverse, do increase cold water fish like Salmon, Sardines, and Mackeral as they are high in very beneficial Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's). Flax oil will also increase EFA's. Most pharmacies, large retailers like Walmart, and even small retailers like Dollar Store & Family Dollar will have Flax or Fish Oil as well as the vitamins. EFA's are very important for overall health but are critical for reproductive health and fetal development, as well as neonatal development and healthy breast-milk. Statistical metadata has proven that optimal EFA's in mommy's breast-milk increase intelligence scores as well as positive mental health and social integration of the developing children and onward into adulthood.
