Question on tooth root resorption

Help sought from bill/ted: Unless I am missing it under some other heading I don't see any information on tooth root resorption. Today my daughter (34) went to the dentist with very swollen lower jaw. It started over the weekend and kept getting more and more swollen and painful. Dentist suspect abscess and sent her to a specialist. Xrays really don't show an abscess but called it resorption.

The suggested treatment is extraction of the tooth and root canal done on the one in back of the infected one as it has the same thing going on tho, not as severe. So she will need a bridge. well, no dental insurance. She has always done regular dental appointments, good dental hygiene etc. When she was early teens, she had surgeries done on her jaws for straightening her teeth/braces etc. She has had pins in her jaw since then. Dentist had no answer as to possible cause or prevention of teeth being affected with more root resorption. Please any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for now

Would like to know if you found an alternative to a root canal?
