Seeking Remedies for Pernicious Anemia and Burning Mouth

Posted By Darla (Ohio) on 05/02/2017

I was diagonised with pernious anemia in 2004 in hospital. Very ill. Very much difficulty in breathing

I was given a complete blood transfusion

When I returned home after one week....I was given one unit of injectible b12. Monthly.....it is called the intrinsic factor where the stomach ling is not able to maintain the b12

I also have lupus.

My mouth started burning about 2013 and has burned constantly to present 2017.

My dr is treating this problem with gabapentin600

3 daily

This problem is very very irritating. And sometimes wonder if I might go MAD.....I chew sugarless gum constantly 3 sticks at a time. I usually go thru 20 stick daily.......I currently still inject the b12.

If anyone has the answer it would be just wonderful.

Please give info

In reply to Darla (Ohio),

You said that you are chewing sugar free gum by the bunches. If the gum you are chewing uses aspartame as the articial sweetner, that could possibly contribute to your burning mouth symptom as aspartame is known to cause that side effect in some people. Choosing a gum with xylitol as the artificial sweetner might be a slightly better alternative plus xyliyol has an antibacterial effect which may be better for your teeth.

If your mouth is dry also, using a spray consisting of food grade vegetable glycerine that is 60% glycerine and 40% distilled water to moisten your mouth might be very helpful. You can add spearmint and or peppermint essential oil drops in this mix which will add a refreshing flavor like gum and will also have antibacterial qualities.

If your burning mouth syndrome is idiopathic, you might look into colloidal silver as a mouth rinse to see if it is something you would want to discuss with your doctor. The advantage of CS is that it is a broad spectrum antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal and if any of those three are a contributing factor to your condition, it may help and CS has a very good safety profile.

As far as B-12, the sublingual methylcobalamin form might be a little easier to absorb in between your injections.

In looking back, is there a possibility that you may have finished an antibiotic regimen just before your burning mouth symptoms started? If so, you might look into high potency broad spectrum probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics or kombucha or fermented foods or similar that help restore the gut and mouth microbiota.

Regarding Lupus, here is something that might be of help:
