The ER may have to use IV antibiotics, but it may be necessary because of this type of infection.
This infection could be from high blood sugar, diabetes. Take very serious measures to lower blood sugar.
Many people have had success with Alpha Lipoic Acid for lowering blood sugar.

For Karen, I was wondering (along with Mmsg) if she couldn't put some cayenne into lotion and massage it in. There are even creams you can buy at the health food store containing capsicum (although it's cheaper to do it yourself - starting with a small amount of cayenne and working up gradually). My Dad has bad leg circulation and he has to sleep with his feet/calves on pillows. If he doesn't, he's in severe pain in the morning. Good luck! Bess

Now, solution time. The thing that helped me most of all, was an ancient Native American recipe called Ojibwa, what we call Essiac tea, or Floressence tea. I also researched Guaifenisen thoroughly, and followed the protocol. This removed lactic acid and took away 1/2 of my pain. However, I now believe such stressors and drugs gobble up ravenous amounts of Vit. C, which leads to a downward spiral. Hot baths and keep moving when on your feet. I had a circulation problem somehow, too. An initial diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy was proved incorrect by a mild shock-machine nerve-test by a top neurologist, showing the problem was not with my nerves at all. I have now healed about 3/4 of the way, by natural means. And I surely am fine mentally, and always was. Go for it! --T.

Making rice packs in long tube sox, you can heat in microwave in place of those hand warmers. Less chemicals and some moist heat.
garlic is a natural blood thinner, alpha lipoic acid helps stop nerve pain, and msm also helps cut pain signals
John Bergman on youtube may give you some tips on your spine health and help you understand how to get natural help .He teaches in easy to understand terms. He was hit by a car and later became a chiropractor and studies other topics.

Re: your problem with cold limbs/torso
My heart really goes out to you in your condition. I'm assuming you mean by the spinal cord injury you literally mean you are paralyzed...paraplegic?
Well, I have only a bit of overlapping information that may help but it's just what I'd try if in your situation. First, I wonder how long you have been paralyzed from the injury. If the injury was years ago and this "cold" sensitivity is a later onset, it could be that there is something in addition to the spinal injury at work. Cold limbs can be from a number of causes. Diabetes might be something you will want to make sure you are checked for....(onset I mean).
Are you getting plenty of massage for your legs and arms; blood must be kept flowing and if you are in a basically sedentary condition you may not be working muscles enough to keep blood flow going.
Vitamin E (natural and NOT synthetic) is vital to keep good blood flow. I once had a 92 year old friend in an assisted living facility and he had many vitamins he took but had not been taking his E and I visited him one day and he had edema very severely. After he got back on E, the edema left in less than two weeks.
By all means, try ginger root/and ginger tablets. Buy real ginger and grate it (three tbs) in a pot of water (three cups) and drink as an herbal tea. Ginger in Ayurveda medicine is a driver and increases circulation. I'd look around the internet (Earth Clinic may have some posts on blood circulation, too.)
Finally, as I brainstorm, I'm thinking this is sounding possibly like an infection....maybe blood related. If you are seeing rashes at different places on your skin that might indicate an infection. For that; easy solution: Take colloidal silver every day, three tablespoons morning and night on empty stomach and if you improve (rashes will go away gradually over a few weeks) then .... ah ha..... a virus at work maybe.
Do you have someone that can work your legs back and forth; I know you said that exercise was not the problem but just thinking if you are not getting good blood flow including legs then this might be an issue.
Also, are you ok on any issue relative to congestive heart problems?
I'll probably wake up at 4 am thinking of some other things. You've written to the right place...there are tons of really caring people who write (and own) Earth Clinic. This site has saved thousands of lives.
Just don't give up. Every problem has a solution. Just keep trying; keep thinking; keep praying. There is always an answer.
