The result of this is that I can now hardly walk due to the pain from my thighs down to my feet. My knees were the first part to hurt, giving me unbearable pain, waking in the middle of the night nearly crying with the pain in both the inner and outer knees. The pain also ran across the middle of the kneecap and underneath the kneecap.
The next lot of pain ran from the back of my knees right the way down my calves to the back of my heels. This pain feels muscular and is like when you have been exercising and not warmed your muscles up in advance and every step you take is extremely painful.
My ankles are also intermittently swollen, my feet are painful and my shoes seem too tight.
I saw my GP and had blood tests, an x-ray and a scan which showed nothing but GP prescribed a pain killer which did not help. Is there any natural remedy I could buy and use at home?

It sounds like you are having trouble with bladder and kidneys. The bladder is the pain you feel in the back of legs and kidney, bladder causing swelling in feet. Front thigh pain is stomach. These organs I mentioned are Chinese meridians/nerves See yinyanghouse.com for pictures and understanding. Auricular Therapy. Purchase one pack of seed packs and one probe. Place seeds on tender points and painfull spots on ear. Check both ears. Clean ear with alcohol. Place seed. Massage seed for 30 secs. 5 times daily wear 5 days or until they fall out. Repeat if needed. YouTube has Auricular videos for better understanding. These points are simple though. Drink more water. An herbal tea for urinary tract may be needed, but drink more water. Stomach: herb: ginger. You may be eating or drinking something acidic. To much coffee, pop etc.affecting both stomach and kidneys and bladder. Tumeric can help with inflammation and pain. May I suggest you treat the root cause of your many pains, and use a natural remedy in the form of a brand new 4-inch thick, 4-foot-by-6-foot piece of foam?
Why? Because sleeping on a foam like this one will be far more comfortable for you than the bed you currently sleep in.
FYI, the retail price of a foam like this is one less than five (5) quid, which means there is no need to suffer... not even if money is an issue.
Further, FYI, I myself used to sleep on a foam like this one, when, back in the 1970s, I rented a flat that was unfurnished.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!So many problems are caused by bad mattresses! I have multiple problems when I sleep on bad mattresses. Since she says it all started when she started sleeping on that bed, I am positive you have found the problem!

PLEASE get a good comfortable sleeping arrangement. This is most likely the cause of all your problems - you know it because you talked about it.Perhaps an inflatable mattress - it will allow you to sleep stretched out & you can deflate it and store it out of the way during the day.
Don't inflate it to be too hard, make it comfy for laying on. I'm not sure it will be perfect for long term use, but it should be a big improvement over what you have now

JoABCLet me try to give better understanding. I could be wrong. I believe you have high uric acid levels and possible uric acid crystals in knees. A test on uric acid levels from your Doctor can verify this. When one is not urinating regularly uric acid levels can go up. Unless your sleeping on be that has headboard and foot board, so your legs can't extend off bed, which legs should do naturally when sleeping. You didn't mention back or shoulders hurting. Try placing chest of table in front of bed, build up with blanket to equal level of bed to lengthen it. The foam mattress mention will help with comfort. Please give feed back on your thoughts.
