Seeking Help For Ovarian Cyst Causing Prolonged Menstruation

Posted By Y. (Bordentown, NJ) on 02/17/2016

Ovarian cyst and first time prolonged menstruation in about 37 years:

I was told I have cyst on my right ovary which is causing my period to be prolonged with heavy clots. This is happening to me for the very first time. My Doc is of the opinion I remove the cyst through surgery? I do not want to have surgery. Is there any alternative remedy to removing the ovarian cyst?

To Y,

This is what I would do if I could go back in time - improve diet as much as possible.

First, I think the most important thing you can do is to reduce your sugar intake. No refined sugars.

Second, Make sure you are getting enough vitamin D.

and third, try to cut out dairy to see if this helps.

When I found I had cysts 16 years ago I had surgery. But within months of the op I had them again, and was told there is no cure.

I did nothing for years. Found out that milk made my ovaries really painful, so gave that up. That might have slowed the the cyst growth but did not get rid of them. Two and half years ago they suddenly grew so large and fast that I had to have a hysterectomy.

There is a lot of information on the internet now, which unfortunately I did not have access to. So by reading, and with hindsight, I think the culprits were my sweet tooth and lack of sun exposure.

Some other things you could research would be, blackstrap molasses, apple cider vinegar, beetroots, vitamin B's and C, stress, gluten.

I would leave surgery to the last resort. Let us know how you get on. All the best, Alexandra.

Dear Y,

When you say prolonged, how many days of bleeding are you talking about? Are you having pain?

Was the cyst diagnosed by an ultrasound?

I am just wanting to make sure that other causes of heavy bleeding have been ruled out. I have had ovarian cysts (though mine didn't cause heavy bleeding, and I don't think that is a common symptoms of ovarian cysts.) I have also had other issues that caused bleeding and pain that may have appeared as a cyst but were other issues (tubal pregnancy, torsion of a cyst, etc.) that required immediate medical attention.

I was able to recently get rid of an ovarian cyst in a couple of weeks or less using castor oil packs over the ovary area overnight, and also using frankincense essential oil topically over the ovary area a couple of times a day. (Just a few drops.) Castor oil packs should not be used when you are bleeding, though.

You may also want to supplement with chlorophyll if you have been bleeding heavily for many days to help build your blood back up. It is easy to become anemic from heavy menstrual bleeding.

Please let me know how you are doing!
