Newly married and preparing for pregnancy

Posted By Star (Los Angeles, Ca) on 11/22/2012

I am 38 years old, newly married and desiring to get pregnant. I am wondering what Ted might suggest for me to get my body ready for pregnancy? Foods to eat, minerals/supplements etc. Warmly, Star

Hi Star, I'm not Ted but I have had 5 kids of my own. It's great that you're thinking about this before getting pregnant! I don't think a lot of people think about how important this is. My suggestion is to start on a good prenatal vitamin which you can find at the health food store. Check your blood that you're not anemic. I know my first pregnancy my midwife was upset by how low my red blood cell count was. I was told by a biochemist who I was working with at the time to start drinking chlorophyll and it would take care of it immediately. By the next visit to my midwife, she was stunned at the change!

Make sure you are eating quality protein and a variety of good whole foods. Lots of good veggies, too. Avoid processed foods and eat quality meat if you do eat it. You might want to read Weston Price's protocols on diet and the development of the body. It is full of valuable information.

My other suggestion would be to get in shape before being pregnant. I know that might sound crazy but after you have a baby, it's a lot of endurance! Lifting and carrying the baby, exhaustion, working to keep up with the new baby. Above all, enjoy yourself! It is a special time for you! I wish you the very best in your pregnancy. Lisa

Start taking folic acid before you get pregnant. Helps prevent birth defects.
