Nerve Pain and Nerve Damage

Posted By James (London, England) on 09/16/2012

I am 28 years old. I have sensory nerve damage for a few months now and am waiting to see a specialist (mostly its pure ache that I experience). I began taking cyanocobalmin b12 but didn't see any results, and have now started taking Methylcobalamin B12 however it does seem to give quite a bad burning on the nerves that have been damaged so I don't know if it's actually making the condition worse. I'm afraid the pain has now got to a bad state and it's definately getting worse. My doctor wants me to take Lyrica in the meantime but I don't wanna start down the "poison" route. I'm feeling desperate at the moment. Would Bill or Ted or any or of the other experts know anything in relation to nerve foods/supplements. Thanks.

Hello James, I also suffer from nerve pain. Mine was caused by chemotherapy. Since you did not indicate the cause of your nerve damage, I will give you some treatments that may work.

Sensory Nerves send impulses through the spinal cord to the brain. Nerve damage can be caused by a herniated disc, joint or spinal compression or from an illness such as diabetes.. Sensory nerves in the neck and back vertebrae affect various reflexes such as arm and leg movement. Failure to treat Sensory Nerves can lead to permanent impairment.. The 1st process in healing nerves is rest. Cold and hot compresses rotated while resting will bring some added comfort.

The following is what I find works best.
B1--Benfotiamine==300 mg 4 times a day
B2--4 mg--3 times a day
B6--4 mg--3 times a day
B12--Methylcobalamin--4 times a day
Vitamin D--500 IU--1 time a day

The most important is R-Lipoic Acid--Take 1 capsule with food twice a day. Do Not Take With Diabetes Medications or Thyroid Medications.

Before taking Lyrica, please carefully read about the side effects. Lyrica can cause neuropathy.

James, My husband has had great success w/ methylB12 (tiny subq) shots for his neuropathy in his feet. He is getting the shots compounded from Lee Silsby Pharmacy in Ohio (cause they are one we found that seems to know how to do it right). He is getting feeling back in his feet and the feeling is returning to his lower legs, working it's way down his legs. He's tried sublingual B12 but that doesn't work. We don't know if the nerves are remyelinating or what, but it's working! I think the dose is 25 mg/ml and each injection is 0. 2ml. He does it every other day. It's a tiny needle and it has to go into the upper outer quadrant of the buttock at about a 30 degree angle. You can google Dr. Neubrander who is an expert in this field for use of methyl B12.
