Need Help for Mood Swings Before and During Menstruation

Posted By sara (mattawan, mi) on 06/05/2024

a friend of mine recommended this site to me, I cannot figure it out. basically I am 45 and had my estrogen checked and while they say it is normal, the ob dr said that that estrogen fluctuates a lot day to day and that the week before my period and week OF my period, my symptoms of horrible depression, crippling anxiety, and panic and self-harm thoughts are the WORST. they are unlike anything I've ever experienced. someone told me black cohosh and dong quai would be good but I have no idea how much, or how often. help?

Sara, you can try Blackstrap Molasses. One tablespoon twice a day. Any way you consume it is ok. I melt it in hot water and that's my "black coffee"!

Hi Sara,

This is the day, the Lord has made, I shall rejoice and be glad in it. Make this day a personal assignment to hold on to joy. I remember my forties. Those were my Prevention magazine years. One of the first things I learned about to help me through that time was 800 IU of Vitamin E. It chased away irritability, prevented hot flashes and helped me to feel normal. Ask your doctor if this is appropriate for you.

The blackstrap molasses is a great suggestion it helps with so many things, It’s a keeper.

My meno paused at 55 years of age. Older now, I find the changes in the way I feel during a day, can be more challenging in post-menopause. And, when I have taken all I know to balance my hormones, sometimes the answer is to get out and help someone else to have a better day.

Sometimes I simply take a song break. Sing an upbeat happy song, I clap my hands, walk around the house, chase the bad attitude out. Yes, I sing myself happy, then I can focus better and work with confidence.

Greetings, Sara of Mattawan MI,

How are you coming along? What strategy did you choose to help you hang on to your cool? I just stopped a moment to remind you to, "Take Charge". If you are at a depression party, that's the wrong party.

Earth Clinic has many suggestions on whatever your situation. Sometimes you have to look under similar topics to find your cure. They do have a page for Black Cohosh, read the introduction first.

Someone tried Dong Quai tea and posted on the PMS page.

Sara, my daughter is around your age, she is taking Myo-Inositol at 2000 mgs a day. It regulates her blood flow and betters her mood.

The research goes on, and you are in charge of your strategy.

Hold on to your joy Sara. "Take Charge!!!"
