I know cherry juice is good for gout, also staying away from red meat helps a lot too, turmeric tea is good for pain, 1 Tablespoon of turmeric and 4 cups of hot water, simmer for 10 minutes, and maybe 1 tablespoon of honey to help sweeten it a bit. Vitamin b complex helps with many things including depression, but about the heart issue? I would consult a dr on that, all of these items are natural but don't know if they would counter-react to any of his current meds, please ask the doctor.

Dear Angeela,

I have a Nutrition Almanac that says heart trouble is linked to magnesium deficiency. I'll quote: "Magnesium is necessary for the proper functioning of the muscles, including those of the heart. Magnesium relaxes muscles, countering the stimulative effect of calcium." It further advises, "When there is a deficiency of magnesium, stress increases the risk of cardiovascular damage, including hypertension , constriction and occlusion of blood vessels, arrhythmia's, and sudden cardiac death."

I will mention to you that I had heard that magnesium citrate was better because it is more readily absorbed. I switched from regular magnesium to the mag citrate and my heart went crazy. I was then diagnosed with PVC.

Upon discussing this with my friend, I was advised that "citrate" is processed from corn. I went back to regular mag but sill had occasional "flutters". My friend then told me about the mag powder that is available, so I switched to the powder and have not had problems from that.

I think it is worth mentioning that went I was prepped for colonoscopies, the liquid mag citrate caused me to have PVC but I didn't put the two together at that time. Hindsight is 20/20.

It is good to be giving your father the things you mentioned. Adding ginger would help with the depression. Personally, for me, I would not take a whole TBSP of turmeric. I take it with ginger but only use 1/4-1/2 tsp. at a time. I hope this information will help you help your father.

My NA also says that a TBSP of BSM (Blackstrap Molasses) contains more potassium than any food. Potassium is needed to stimulate kidneys but potassium buildup may result from kidney failure.

I think it would be a good idea to get a CBC (complete blood count) done and specifically ask for magnesium and potassium levels before adding any supplements.

BSM is also a good source of B vitamins. I think that is a safe source of magnesium and potassium until you get a lab report.
