Need dhea instructions for weight loss

Posted By Gertrude (Id) on 01/12/2015

I read a post from Ted where he was telling a woman to take l-tryptophan for sleep and lysine, glycine, green tea extract, & lecithin for cholesterol. He said something about dhea for weight. Can anyone tell me how much dhea? He was talking measurements like spoonful, not mgs or measuring spoon. I've done some research and have learned that the 50 mg tablets I bought are way too much, should take more like 1 mg. Can anyone tell me how much to take, what time of day (morning or bedtime) to take it & if I need to take a break sometimes?

G: How much DHEA you would benefit from depends mostly on your age. The older you are, the more mg you will need. I am a bit over 50 yrs and take 50mg daily.

As for DHEA and weight loss, 7-Keto DHEA is much more effective form of this hormone. Start w/ 25mg once a day w/ breakfast or lunch. After completing the first bottle I would bump up to 50mg. Since the 7-Keto is much more expensive than regular DHEA, I have used both together. A base 25mg DHEA will free up a minimal dose of 7-Keto of 25 or 50mg for maximum benefit.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) are commonly used & effective weight busters. Chromium Picolinate 200mcg 2x day taken w/ 500mg Niacinamide is also good for weight loss. I mention these other remedies because supplementing hormones can lead to elevated hormone levels in the blood if there is sluggish sugar & fat burning, high LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Oh, almost forgot, Kelp tablets will nourish the thyroid gland which is the body's main modulator of metabolism.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't really need to lose weight, 145 at 5'6", female age 57. I'd like to lose a bit, but don't look bad and am not flabby b/c I exercise daily. If it will help me lose it, sure I'll take it. But, being postmenopausal, I don't want to start a hormone issue that I don't have already. My cholesterol was going up and Ted had mentioned the other items to reduce triglycerides, but then I got confused as to how much of each item. The others I just follow the label as to how much/how often. But the dhea was confusing--the bigger dose bottles instruct more mg/day, so what's the optimal. Today, I took a 25 mg tablet and cut it in fourths, took 1/4 as the dose. I am still confused as to how much total to take for optimal health.

Without the luxury of Dr supervision and lab test, the lay method of self-care is "start low and go slow". This allows the body an easy transition and adaptation while also reducing potential bad side effects. So, your instinct is already placed you in the correct position. Continue the 1/4 25mg for a wk or two then go to 1/2 and so on up to 50mg daily. Some people take as much as 100mg or more but that does seem to be pushing a one-sided therapy too much. There are other natural methods for hormone balancing or boosting that would be better utilized by the body.
