Seeking Natural Remedies for Semicircular Canal Dehiscence

I was recently diagnosed having semicircular canal dehiscence where a bone in the ear has worn down causing vertigo, dopey/drunk feelings, unable to do things like golf (the head movements exacerbates dizziness), sometimes can't rust myself to drive, become 'seasick' when a car passenger and use extreme caution climbing stairs, etc.

The doctor recommended surgery however it can be a partial or full craniotomoy; some patients have taken up to a year to learn how to walk again.

Does anyone have any recommendations for natural healing?

There is a set of exercises known as The Five Tibetan Rites. The First Rite is a spinning type of exercise that can combat dizziness. It can make you dizzy, too, so you must take your time working up to the suggested (21) revolutions. You stand with your arms stretched out to your sides level with your shoulders. Turn clockwise and 'spin' around. If you must go slowly, that is fine. Stop when you are no longer comfortable. You may not be able to do many revolutions at first so take weeks or months to work comfortably up to the 21 revolutions. Practice this daily. It is amazingly effective!

Dear Marsh57,

Have you tried ginger for the nausea? It is reported in the Nutrition Almanac that ginger is an anti-inflammatory and used for nausea and motion sickness. I would only use 1/4 tsp. a couple times a day to start.

Turmeric is also an anti-inflammatory...that really opened up my ears so I could hear so much better. Again, start with 1/4 tsp. in some warm water.

I can only suggest 1/4 tsp. of magnesium powder for possible regeneration/bone growth. I had success using it for a vertebra in my neck and discovered it eliminated arthritis symptoms and sciatica.

Yes, I've done this, the Epley maneuver & Dr. Carol Foster's manuever. The latter helps the most along with acupuncture for sinus relief. Had a violent veritigo episode a couple days ago when turning too fast. Thank you for the suggestion, every one is appreciated.

Hi KT, ginger does settle the tummy when rolling. I take magnesium about 3-4 times a week; will start more frequently as well as tumeric. Glad to hear it helped your issues. Will share with a friend about it for her sciatica just diagnosed last week. Thank you!

Since my 1st post in July 2017, I've tried everything from prayer to supplements for bone growth. It seems its worsening, although I saw a reiki practitioner and had literal relief for 6 hours of all symptoms, except my hearing was still bionic and thought I would go crazy because it was extremely amplified. It was heaven not to feel all the other symptoms! After researching SSCD for 18 months and because it's worsening, I've decided to have the surgery. There are 3 'teaching hospitals' that were recommended and I've decided upon UCLA since they perform approx 150+ SSCD surgeries a year. Very thankful and blessed to have found this physician as he believes in a higher power. Prayers welcome for perfect results. Blessings to all here at EC and their followers!

I too, like another commenter, get vertigo when my blood sugar has gone crazy high due to binges I inexplicably take (Nah! I know why --it's stress and sugar binges). At one time, whenever I got on airplanes, trains, buses, or riding as a passenger in a car I'd feel dizziness, nausea, and vertigo come over me. I needed to take a trip to France and dreaded the travel portion of it. So 3 months before the trip I began doing the 5 Tibetan Rites which was recommended by a friend. Even when I skipped, I always did the spinning part daily. Lo and behold, the plane trip was actually enjoyable -- even through rough weather on the leg back. None of my symptoms appeared. The 5 Tibetan rites are simple to do and without you being aware, they become very helpful. At the end of a year, I found myself very toned -- particularly my arms and hips and tummy. And, they elevate my mind toward a firmer sense of happiness. I "get over it" faster and I just feel happier. And in this chaotic world, that's saying something.
