Advice on Remedies to Heal Liver From Liver Damage Due To Alcohol Abuse

Posted By Tabitha (Ma) on 05/12/2016

Hi,

My husband has liver disease, mostly from alcohol abuse. He is on the road to recovery and has been sober for 6 months.

His liver is slowly improving but he is still having complications. His doctor told him the other day although liver has improved it looks like it is plateauing. He knows that if it does not improve further he will need a transplant.

At this juncture we are thinking maybe we could try more natural options for helping to heal his liver. Question is where to start. I'm looking for any helpful suggestions or remedy's, supplements, foods to eat, foods to stay away from that will help to heal his liver. Thanks

Tabitha

Dear Tabitha,

6 months sober - congratulations to you both. So happy to hear of his improving. He is blessed to have you on his side.

Foods that are good for the liver - beets and carrots are great. Start with a small amount as their healing effect can be strong. Focus on whole foods, fruits and veggies, less processed foods. Good fats like olive oil and coconut oil.

Dandelion is great for the liver. You can get coffee substitutes that have chicory and dandelion in them that are pretty tasty. Dandelion tea with honey would be another option.

Charcoal poultices or castor oil packs over the liver on a regular basis may help a good bit. They are a little bit of work but once you get in the habit of them, they are easy and so helpful.

Also, healing baths.

Keep us posted. I am hopeful that trying these and other natural things will help him surpass the plateau!

Milk Thistle is magnificent for ailing livers.

It's very affordable, too!

T: LiverSupport.com has lots of info and special natural products for liver disease, and a free newsletter. If your husband's response to the suggested natural remedies isn't sufficient (but most likely will be) there are more advance therapies that will be sure to restore to near normal function.
