My 2 year old has herpetic gingivostomatitis

My 2 year old has what these so called doctors say is Herpetic gingivostomatitis. I've read that Acyclovir shortens the healing time. However I want a permanent solution for my son. My little man is miserable and not knowing what to do to help him is upsetting. Can you please help with ideas on what I can use to get him right. Thank you for your help.

Dear Juene,

So sorry your little guy is suffering!

Acyclovir is an anti-viral I believe? Coconut Oil (extra virgin cold pressed) is an amazing anti-viral. It turned my son's mono around in 36 hours (he had been very sick for weeks.) You could give him 1/2 teaspoon three times a day. If he lets it melt into his mouth before swallowing (it may be liquid at this time of year) the contact of the oil on the inflammation in the mouth would be good, too.

I have used turmeric successfully with my little ones. 1/8 teaspoon twice a day in some honey or applesauce.

Some clove oil might help with the pain. You can put a few drops into a Tablespoon of coconut oil and put it onto the sore parts a few times a day. Before meals may make eating easier since it numbs the mouth. Clove oil is in teething remedies. It is also good for infection. It is a kind of spicy but that feeling passes quickly. I have used it on children under a year old.

To keep his immune system working well you can give him vitamin C daily and also astragalus root powder daily. 1/8 teaspoon once or twice a day. It is very mild and yet effective. The powder can be mixed into applesauce or yogurt or put into oatmeal or something.

I hope he feels better soon. Let us know how he is doing.
