Hi, I am a huge fan of earth clinic and esp Ted! I have benefitted from many of the remedies posted here. Thank you!!!

I am now a mother of a 4 month old baby and trying to find cures for the issues we face here in winter. Could you please let me know the safe remedies that I can use on 4 month old baby as I have decided to avoid antibiotics and other chemicals the mainstream medicine provides:
1. cold
2. congestion
3. cough
4. viral infections

right now he is having congestion and little cough. the info about cold, viral infections etc I am asking so that I have the remedies on hnd if needed, instead of starting to seek remedies in the 11th hour!

Thank you very much for all the help. Bless u!

Hi Kavita, here is a home remedy for Congestion:

Mix a small pellet of Camphor in 1 tsp of coconut oil and warm it till you get the smell. Now make it as a paste and apply externally in the chest throat, neck and nose in the night. This will clear up cold and congestion.

Wet Cough

Take Half Betel Leaf and 3 pinch of Ajwain Seeds and grind it in a mortar. Extract 1 tsp of decoction from the ground mixture.

Give this syrup 2 times a day for not more than 2 days. This will loosen the mucus and phelgm.

hope this helps

Hi Kavita, I also chose not to raise my kids with vaccinations, antibiotics, medicine, etc. I always used homeopathy from the time my kids were born. My suggestion would be to study about how homeopathy works and get a good book to always have on hand to look up ailments and homeopathic remedies.

I would also use garlic olive oil which I would make myself for any ear issues and it always worked. We never ever went to the Dr. because it just wasn't necessary.

My youngest is now 13 and I also will use Chinese herbs with her. The oldest is now 27 and all of them remained healthy and strong throughout their childhood. I also breastfed all of them so hopefully, you chose that as well as it helps to create a strong immune system in their body.

Wishing you the best with your new baby! Have a fun life! Lisa

Kavita, For coughs I used to put a cut piece of onion near (not too near) the baby's head for him/her to breath the fumes.

Lisa, I also raised my children without doctor visits for earaches: cotton soaked with olive oil, left in the ear would usually clear it up in a day, max 2 days. How did you make the garlic-olive oil?

Hi Mmsg, I learned this from one of my natural care books so long ago I don't remember which one! I would warm a bit of olive oil over the stove and then in a small porcelain dish I would put a raw clove of garlic in it and leave it to steep. I would then soak a cotton ball in it and put it in their ear. Apparently, yours worked just as well w/out the garlic since you also never took your kids to the doctor for earaches either. I just figured since garlic was a powerful antibiotic in a natural form, it couldn't hurt. I was always studying and learning ways to take care of my kids without the doctor visits that were really unnecessary. I would say the majority of children's illnesses can be taken care of with natural remedies. How old are your kids now? I think many young parents feel uncertain about following their own guidance. Good to hear from you, Lisa
