Okay, yes I'm about to ask my primary care physician to switch me to Armour thyroid, as well. I didn't know that the desiccated thyroid didn't have thyroid hormones in it though. I'm assuming it just supports it then? Would it be okay to take the prescription Armour Thyroid and then take the raw dessicated bovine thyroid to support it further? I just don't want to take levothyroxine anymore. It doesn't work. I also take allot of supplements that support thyroid function, as well, not just Lugol's.

Michelle, I have not seen any info that plain thyroid extract cannot be taken alongside the scrip. And for me, levothyroxine did not work either. I felt so much better after the switch.

Another thing people experiment with is bladderwrack. I haven't tried it yet.

Well, now I just had my thyroid levels checked, and they are more towards hyperthyroidism than hypothyroidism! I'm only on 25mcg of Levothyroxine, so I'm wondering if I should just stop taking it. I'm going to cut it in half down to 12.5mcg and see how that works out. Maybe I don't need to take it anymore. Yes, of course I will inform my Primary Care Physician of what I'm going to do and have her test my levels again. I do take allot of supplements that support the thyroid, so maybe it's just that they are working. With this all said, I'm assuming I don't need to take desiccated thyroid?

I am struggling with hypothyroid and have been off and on for years. Was on levothyroxine for a short time, then Amour's Naturethroid. I never felt that great on either one, so dosed down the first time from Levothyroxine and felt pretty sick, but I was on a high dose, probably up to 60 mcg. All I did was walk down the road burning off this weird energy like I was on drugs, but didn't feel good. Next time, it was naturethroid, a lower dose, and I never felt "complete" so stopped taking cold turkey and started the lugol's iodine. I could never get clear on a "dose" so started slowly. I cant get a doc to do testing; the one who is qualified to do so says to just go by symptoms. When I had a bad detox, he said I was taking too much, lol. But in reflection, I later realized it wasn't just the iodine, but detox and other issues. Anyway, I am up to 50 mg a day and feel so much better. I read Bill Thompson's candida book and any other resource I could find and then made a decision. Before I started the iodine my doc said that dessicated thyroid was good. But I was just tired of pills that only treat part of the whole thyroid issue, when Lugol's and other supps treat the thyroid, hormones, etc. Also iodine is an antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and on and on. For testing I have to order online.

Just looking through the earlier threads on your post and see that you are taking Lugol's along with levothyroxine. This could be the reason you are now hyperthyroid. You have to get off of the levothyroxine or you could create a thyroid storm, very dangerous. There is a post somewhere here on earth clinic about that. You should wean yourself off levothyroxine and then start the Lugol's.

That is my goal! To get off of the Levothyroxine. I have, in the past, cut my levothyroxine into12.5 mcg, and my levels were within normal range still. For the past few days I did the same thing and I feel fine. Maybe the thyroid supporting supplements that I take are working and I no longer need the Levothyroxine. I will try to wean off of the 12.mcg and see what happens and report back.
