Loss of Taste and Smell From Sinusitis, Please Help!

Can anyone tell me if they lost their smell and taste? I have had chronic sinusitis for 3 years and keeps me coughing nonstop. My taste and smell left me shortly after this started. I have never had sinus problems before....no idea what started it. My doctor tells me my orafactory nerve may be damaged...help!
