My former FIL had a friend that lost his sense of taste supposedly from a zinc defiency. According to my former FIL, his friend's sense of taste took over 6 months to return. This friend was very overweight and the loss of taste "helped" the friend lose a lot of weight. I don't remember why the friend's zinc became so low.
