Loss of Cartilage in Joints

Posted By Gracie (UK) on 11/06/2023

Hi, I'm elderly, female, and have followed a healthy diet since I was 26 years of age. Not perfectly, but on the whole pretty good. I've kept well but now have arthritis in my knees, hips, and lower back, and was recently told by the doctor that I have no cartilage remaining in my left knee and only half the amount in my hips! This after a healthy diet and taking numerous supplements over the years including the infamous borax.

When I was 70 I did have a right knee replacement, and it's been OK but I do want to avoid having the other knee and hips replaced if possible. So my question is has anyone tried stem cell/gene therapy and was it successful? Also, I've recently read that research is being done into growing cartilage and placing it into damaged joints. Apparently the body does not naturally replace cartilage once its lost.

Looking forward to hearing other people's experiences.

Jell-O-Gelatin for Arthritis

For a long time, gelatin’s therapeutic effect in arthritis was assumed to result from its use in repairing the cartilage or other connective tissues around joints, simply because those tissues contain so much collagen. (Marketers suggest that eating cartilage or gelatin will build cartilage or other collagenous tissue.) Some of the consumed gelatin does get incorporated into the joint cartilage, but that is a slow process, and the relief of pain and inflammation is likely to be almost immediate, resembling the anti-inflammatory effect of cortisol or aspirin.

Gelatin also provides the building blocks for healthy joints and people with arthritis, joint injuries or joint pain might notice a substantial difference from incorporating Gelatin rich foods and supplements.

Gelatin is largely composed of the amino acids glycine and proline, which many people don’t consume in adequate amounts as they are found in the bones, fibrous tissues and organs of animals and as a population, we don’t consume these parts as much anymore. These amino acids are needed not only for proper skin, hair and nail growth, but for optimal immune function and weight regulation.

Gelatin is animal product, and it is obtained through the hydrolysis of collagen. This protein is the base of animal cartilage, bone, and tendons. We consume gelatin through food products like jellies, meat, dairy, gummy candy, but we are not even aware of that. It goes under the name E441.

How to use Gelatin – Arthritis - Find high-quality food gelatin. You can find numerous products with flavors or sugar added. Add two teaspoon of gelatin to a glass of water 2x/daily, and drink it before you go to bed.

If you are dealing with severe ailments, take your gelatin dose twice a day. Your pain will disappear and you will experience a greater joint mobility in just 7 days. Gelatin treatments usually last for 4-6 weeks.

Gelatin does wonders for elderly and those who have difficulty moving.

Aging affects the production of collagen, and individual microfibers in the body become interconnected, which leads to reduced flexibility. This is why older people have trouble moving and experience pain. It takes more time to warm their bodies, and performing regular physical activities seems impossible. And this is where gelatin takes place.

Jell-O-Gelatin- A Natural Homemade Remedy for Regenerating Cartilage

Apart from being absolutely tasty as a dessert or when used as a salad dressing, gelatin is also a great natural remedy for regenerating the knee cartilage, hip and other joints.

This beneficial role of gelatin is found to be due to its similar structure to the cartilage. Gelatin is an extremely rich source of proteins and collagen, a substance that participates in tissue, bone, tendon, and cartilage construction. Moreover, it contains 10 essential amino acids, but no fats, nor cholesterol.

The optimal quantity of gelatin is 10 grams a day. Its regular consumption can lead to a complete elimination of osteoarthritis symptoms.

This is The Reason Why They Give Gelatin to Sick People in Hospitals:

When You Find out The Reason, You Will Be Surprised. It is mostly composed of glycine and proline, the amino acids which are essential not only for the good condition of your skin, hair, and nails, but for the proper function of your immune system and regulation of weight.

Glycine, the active compound in gelatin powder has potent anti-inflammatory properties and according to a study, it can be very beneficial for speeding up the healing process of wounds. Furthermore, it was proven that it can improve the quality of your sleep.

Why they give jello to sick people in hospitals?

Well, the answer is that it is considered as a “clear liquid” just as water, tea, juice, broth, etc. Hospitals use it because the stomachs of people who are recovering can’t handle anything rich, and jello is one of the easiest foods for your body to digest.

Icky tummies need to intake calories in a way which will not cause a sick person distress. And Jello is a great way to intake the needed calories as it has high content of sugar. Also, Jello is easy to digest and having something easy to digest is essential if you are in the process of recovery.

Gelatin will enhance gastric acid secretion and restore a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach, thus improving the gut integrity and digestive strength. Nowadays, impaired gut barrier and low stomach acid are the two most common digestive problems.

Gelatin has the ability to keep fluid in the digestive tract, absorb water, and promote healthy bowel movements and good intestinal transit.

Health Benefits of Gelatin

– Gelatin is packed with protein; it contains 6 grams in 1 tablespoon. It is a great way to add more protein to your diet.

– It can help in the healing of food allergies and intolerances -- You can heal the lining of your stomach and digestive tract by adding gelatin to your diet.

– Gelatin can improve the health of your bones and joints due to its high content of amino acids which have the ability to prevent weakness and degeneration of cartilage in joints.

– Gelatin can improve digestion due to the fact that it can naturally bind to water and help food move through the digestive tract more easily.

– Gelatin can help your body eliminate toxins -- the glycine in gelatin helps the liver to effectively remove toxins from our system.

– Gelatin contains keratin, which can improve the condition of your hair, teeth, and nails.

– As we said before, glycine has potent anti-inflammatory properties, so the gelatin is highly effective for speeding up the healing process of wounds.

– Gelatin can help with weight loss and boost your metabolism. Experts claim that it can also increase the production of Human Growth Hormone.

– It can improve the elasticity of your skin. The consumption of gelatin will improve the look of your skin due to the fact that gelatin is essentially cooked down collagen.

– Gelatin has the ability to improve the quality of your sleep. According to a recent study, the amino acid glycine not only will improve your sleep, but it will improve your cognitive function.

Testimonial: For arthritis, research knox gelatin. 35 yrs ago I had no knee cartilidge. Went on knox, in two months pain was subsiding. In 6 months almost grown back. In a year I was fine. I couldn't walk up or down stairs, run or anything. I am now 72 and knee cartilige is fine. Still take one packet every week or two as joint insurance. It has worked for many, many people. Testimonial: A couple of days ago I awoke to find pain in the area of my left hip, in the front. I'd not felt any arthritis pain in my hips since I gave up eating grains about six years ago to heal adrenal fatigue caused by stress.

Anyway, I came straight to EC's arthritis page and decided on gelatine as the remedy, especially since I had gelatin packets hanging around for 10-12 years. I emptied one packet into my morning smoothie...what amounted to a level tablespoon...drank it all down and was relieved of the pain right away.

That afternoon I felt a hint of pain and drank another packet of gelatin in half a glass of water. It was kind of uckie, but it went down and I got relief.

Next morning (yesterday) I felt a hint of the pain again and had another gelatin packet in my smoothie. Got relief right away. In the afternoon, to play it safe, I had half a teaspoon of turmeric in a little apple juice. (Also from EC.) The taste was very palatable.

This morning, to play it safe, I had another packet in my smoothie. I am fine, no pain since yesterday morning. I am 76 y.o. and I'll be putting gelatine in my smoothie from now on. I'll have the turmeric when there is no smoothie. B.T.W. on the box it says "The Original Unflavored Gelatine" ... spelled with an e at the end.

Now I can keep on bragging that at my age I have no arthritis, no prostate problems, and I can still make babies.

Hi Rob

Thank you so much for your wonderfully comprehensive reply to my post on loss of cartilage in knee joints, thighs, and lower back. I will certainly start taking the gelatine.

I would point out that I have taken it in the past along with bone broth, but cannot recall there was much improvement at that time. But it is certainly worth another try, and I will report back on any improvements made.

As mentioned, the doctor informed me that once cartilage is lost it cannot be regrown, but if the pain I am currently experiencing and loss of balance are helped by taking the gelatine then it will be a real bonus.

Best wishes.

For a more comprehensive approach to your problem, look to how the MayoClinic treated arthritis at the beginning of the 1900s – 1960.

All these treatments are performed simultaneously.

  • Bed rest
  • Balanced diet
  • Physical therapy (exercise)
  • Salicylate (wintergreen oil diluted applied topically to area)
  • Vitamin therapy
  • Gold therapy
  • Heat massage

Eliminate foci of infection (a focal infection is a localized infection, often asymptommatic, that causes disease elsewhere in the body)

Note: Before 1960 “Arthritis” was commonly refered to as “Infection Arthritis”. “In 1939, Dr. Sabin, the discoverer of the polio vaccine, first reported chronic arthritis in mice caused by a mycoplasma. He suggested this agent might cause human rheumatoid arthritis.”

In the 1920s, rheumatoid arthritis was called chronic infectious arthritis. Other terms for rheumatoid arthritis used by various authors included proliferative arthritis and atrophic arthritis. The idea that this disease was caused by a chronic infection was based on reports first by workers in Europe in the late 1800s, who found microbes in blood and joints from patients with various forms of arthritis. In the United States, the report by Cecil et al provided much evidence to support this theory. Using special culture techniques, they recovered streptococci from the blood of 62% of patients and the joints from 67% of patients with chronic infectious arthritis. In addition, antibodies to streptococci were found in blood. Other investigators found similar results.

Hopefully this will point you in the right direction. Good luck
