I had the same problem of very dry eyes after Lasik eye surgery. I used lubricating eye drops and took Bilberry extract pills for 6 months until my dry eyes problem went away.

Did the dry eyes from lasik surgery completely go away? how long did you suffer for?

At night use coconut oil in your eyes. It's harder to do this during the day, but the coconut oil will relieve the dryness and soreness quickly. I have personally used coconut oil in my eyes and I found relief instantly. It is also very healing and antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral etc. If you try this you will find instant relief. Good luck, Sue

Hi Kat, I too had dry eyes from Lasik and noticed that at about 7-8 months after the surgery, I didn't have to use my eye drops in every morning like I used to. My eyes still feel dry in the morning but is a lot better now than the first year. Every morning, I just blink several times get my tear ducts to wet my own eyes naturally. I rub castor oil around my eyes at night before bed just like some of the writers here suggested and it works. I only have to use the eye drop every now and then. I found that keeping myself well hydrated from the inside out helps. Here is what I do: Drink 8 cups of water every day; take flax seed oil; eat half avocado almost everyday. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I have recently been putting in castor oil in my eye, taking bilberry supplements and luten, cod liver oil, drinking a lot of water, taking b complex, doing oil pulling, and taking sea buckthorn (a study was done using this for dry eyes). Something has to work. For the ones that had dry eyes, are you able to wear makeup? or does makeup cause more sensitivities?

How do you do this Sue, do you put it inside your eyes? I haven't had surgery but my daughter has!

To Kat,
I have no problem with eye makeup. I do find that mascaras from Lancome and Prescriptive were better for my eyes. I tried the cheaper brands and found that they were irritating.

To SP from la vergne... So even when you had dry eyes you were ok wearing makeup? Also, when you did the surgery, did you have dry eyes beforehand? How long did you suffer with dry eyes? Oddly enough, I too noticed it about 3 months after my surgery. I thought everything was fine till my eyes started to feel weird. They put me on allergy drops telling me I had allergies when I never did. How severe were your dry eyes? Im sorry im asking so many questions. This is something new to me and kind of scary. So its good to talk to others I guess who can relate. Thanks

HI Kat, I'm sorry to hear you are having such a problem with your eyes. Before Lasik, yes my eyes were very sensitive and dry... Have been like that for almost 20 yrs. I wore contacts, but always took them out a night. 7-8 months after Lasik, my eyes are not so sensitive. During the first 6-7 months after Lasik, I could not open my eyes in the morning unless I put some drops in. I agree with someone who made a comment about your eyes becoming dependent on the eye drops for moisture. That's the main reason why I stop using the drops in the morning even when my eyes feel like they need it. I just blink several times and after about 10-15 minutes, they feel fine throughout the day. Also I think the reason I don't have a problem with my eyes like before is that now I'm taking better care of myself. I'm eating healthier than before and adding the right kinds of oil to my meals. I do believe that giving your body what it needs helps it to heal itself.

I notice you mentioned that are trying different remedies, perhaps you may want to consider adding flax seed oil to your daily regime. I take about a 1,000 mg/day. I also take about a spoonful of extra virgin coconut oil to my coffee almost everyday. About 2-3 times a week, I add a teaspoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar to a glass of water. I feel that I have less problem with dry skin, eyes, hair since I have been doing this. Hang in there, your health will get better. BTW, I have no problem with eye makeup now. Good luck

Thank you for taking the time to write this for me. I am a believer that the body heals itself. I will try the coconut oil and the flaxseed as well. I really appreciate the information you have provided me :)

Hi Kathy, I stumbled upon this thread I am wondering how your eyes have been doing since then... I am thinking of getting lasik, but I have been told by doctors that my eyes are really dry (I wouldn't have known otherwise though) Thanks.

Coconut Oil for Dry Eyes: I second the first post that mentions VCO (virgin Coconut Oil) except that I am using the Expeller pressed refined coconut oil (I know you are supposed to use Virgin, but I tolerate this form better & it is helping me in areas). I am only taking only about half a teaspoon of this for the last few days, and already my eyes are SO much better!! I haven't needed to use drops all day! Definitely try this remedy if you have dry eyes!

to Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, you mention dry eyes during the night... magnesium can do that to me.

I have just found that a little sea salt in the water at night will lubricate everything. Seems that the body will use the water instead of just urinating it out.

Sea salt has changed my life!

This seems a little weird. I have had dry eyes for as long as I can remember. I happen to have some salt on my finger. I happened to wipe my eyes. I now put a litte salt outside my eyes by my nose. I can't believe how good it works. It burns less than eye drops do.

Eye drops are usually a saline solution. Saline solution is salt in water.. It is the same thing.

Store bought saline solutions usually has antimicrobials in it. If you make your own saline. It doesn't have a long shelf life at all. You must sterilize the water first. Put 1 cup of water in clean sterlized pan, place pan on stove let the water go to a rolling boil for 10-11 minutes. Saline solution is 1 cup of water add 1/4 to 1/2 salt water.
