Itchy and scaly skin on childrens elbows and knees

Posted By Neha (Dallas, TX) on 03/16/2015

I have 2 kids 6 and 4 yearl old. Since last year I had been noticing itchy and scaly skin on my daughter's elbow. This year my son also started having it. How can I treat those?

Dear Neha,

The first thing I would try would be Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. You can use it externally. It would probably be good to take internally, too. (Most people buy it for food use.) If you used enough each day for them to get a teaspoon or two each daily, that would be great. (I spread it on toast, use it to saute vegetables, etc.)

Castor Oil would be another thing to try.

A drop or two of tea tree essential oil per teaspoon of coconut oil or castor oil would be a third thing to try.

There are other things to try, but these are probably the easiest things to start with.

Do they have other health issues or allergies?
