Is healthy eating causing my heart palpitations

Posted By Amanda (Metro Detroit Area, Michigan) on 11/17/2014

I am 30 years old and experiencing palpitations that flutter with a pause like a skipped beat. Sometimes they last for 20 minutes or longer. I used to eat a very high-fat, high-carb diet since I worked in fast food. I also drank a lot of pop. I gained over 100 in the last 10 years so in an effort to get healthy I have been eating fresh veggies, lean meats, lower carb, less dairy, and NO pop. Now after meals or sometimes if I haven't eaten in a while, the palpitations will come. Can anyone please give me some insight before I go see a doctor? I feel like they are diet related since I only have them when I am eating healthy. It sounds crazy but when I go off my diet and eat fatty foods they go away completely! Should I be worried?

Amanda;

Even if you are eating more healthy foods, you might still be low in Magnesium and Potassium.

I've seen MANY Afib issues disappear with intake of 500 mg of Magnesium alone. If me I'd take that much magnesium and a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in glass of water daily.

Thanks for the feedback Dave, I will definitely try that. I am still a bit stumped though because last night for dinner I had sauteed spinach, brown rice, and salmon for dinner and the palpitations lasted for hours. I thought all of those foods were high in magnesium. Yet today I only had some chicken soup and a few healthy snacks like hummus with celery and NO palps yet. Very strange I think but I will look into the supplements.
