What Can I Do for an Intermittent Problem with Itchy Skin on Legs?

Posted By Goodhealth (New Jersey) on 10/10/2015

I wish someone with the same problem as I have would give me much needed remedies.

Once or twice a year, I get this unbearable itchiness in front of my two legs (always the same spot). It starts with a small watery bump and as I scratch it, the itchy area gets larger and larger. Day and night I feel this miserable urge to scratch. I have applied Neosporin, anti-itch cream, coconut oil which my dermatologists prescribed but they didn't help. A friend suggested to wash my legs with very hot water, soak a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide to wipe the itchy area but this only gives me a temporary relief.

This condition lasts for about a week, until all the watery bumps dry out, then the itchiness subsides. After which, the worst thing that happens is, it leaves a embarrassing dark area which takes months before they disappear and then, the next bout of itchiness starts again so it is a repetition all over again. I envy my friends who can wear short skirts, showing their pretty legs but I can't wear anything except pants.

To share my health problems, I was diagnosed with fatty liver and once was treated with hypothyroidism. Could my itchiness be result of an internal disorder?

Dear Goodhealth,

Absolutely, the skin issue could be caused by an internal disorder.

Dealing with your liver issue would be a good place to start, if you have not already.

Turmeric is one recommendation for a fatty liver. Turmeric is also excellent for skin disorders, itching and inflammation.

This sounds so much like poison ivy with the bubbles and spreading and intense itching.

Externally, for the damage and scarring after the initial healing, try castor oil topically, or a combination of castor oil and extra virgin coconut oil.

Are you doing anything for the hypothyroid issue? If your thyroid is not working well, your skin will not heal well.

I hope you feel better soon!

Dear Goodhealth. I had the same issue. Youtube has some videos about wet cupping and Amazon sells the kit. It's a miraculous ancient Arab technique adapted by India and China. In addition, it cured my varicose veins. After suffering the itching agony, I walk on air. Hoping you have the courage to do it. I'm a foreigner and those techniques are familiar.
