Impaired taste with sensation of oily tongue

Posted By Charlotte (West Monroe, La, Usa) on 11/22/2012

Hello, I must say that I am delighted to find this site! I would like to pose a question in behalf of my husband. He is in good health, 70 years old. Lately, he is having trouble with his taste not being right, and he says that he feels like there is an oil coating on his tongue. There is no pain, no discoloration. There are no dental issues. I have searched high and low, to no avail, for information pertinent to this. Anyone having suggestions, please let me know. I would be most grateful. Thank you! Charlotte

Hi Charlotte, You don't mention anything about his diet or his digestion. Since you say he has no dental issues, the next thing I'd look to are these two things. According to my traditional Chinese medicine Dr. this is due to poor digestion. Also, an oily tongue is an indication of dampness or phlegm condition (retention of food).

The tongue is very important in diagnosing in TCM. You may want to consider seeing a Traditional Chinese medicine Dr. who would be able to address this issue easily. If you want, google: tongue in Chinese medicine to learn more.

Hope this info helps you and your husband. Lisa
