I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue

Hi. I was reading the info on your site... I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Dec. 2010. (I have to add... My blood tests were ALL completely normal; we are using body temp and symptoms as a gauge for treatment) Starting with a low dose of natural dessicated thryoid and working my way up. Body temp was coming up nicely, as was my resting heart rate going up (started at 48 BPM). I managed to lose 10 of the 20 pounds I had gained last year too. Anyhow... All of a sudden, about a month ago, I have stopped responding to the throid meds and body temp going back down. Heart rate slowing again... Haven't gained back any weight. Being EXTREMELY careful about what I eat. No GRAIN or STARCH.

My doc is a naturopath. She suspects adrenal fatigue. She is giving me a Meyer's Cocktail IV for 5 days straight. I've had 2; 3 to go.

I have heard about the wonders of coconut oil and have started taking it about three days ago...

Now... one of the major symptoms of hypothyroidism and adrenal fatique are TIREDNESS. I am not the least bit tired, fatigued, achy, sore.... I feel as though I could run a marathon on a daily basis. I gave up smoking 2 years ago and have never eaten unhealthy carbs (grew up that way). I kicked the table salt habit several years ago also...

I have given up gluten (and pretty much all grains and starches), and I am now considering giving up dairy as I am trying to figure out why I am so gassy all the time still. Stopping gluten helped a lot, but the gas problem is still here.

Other than that, my diet is impeccable. No sugar, no processed foods of ANY kind, 8-10 servings of fruit & veggies (mostly veggies), high protein, healthy fats, sea salt with dulse flakes, etc...

I workout at great intensity for an hour minimum everyday. I do intense cardio and strength training.... Everything from kickboxing to plyometrics, heavy bag workouts, weight training, suspension training... you name it.

So, what I'm wondering is... How can I have this much energy and still have these conditions? Or, am I just used to running around at full tilt? I have taken 2 days off from exercise and that in itself is stressing me out. Lol

My life however, is full of stress. I run two businesses, have a busy 7 year old, I am taking courses and I like my house to be CLEAN. So, I do have a hard time relaxing. For sure. Maybe even a bit OCD...

Anyhow... if these Meyer's Cocktails don't work, what should I do? I don't think I can handle "walks around the block" for exercise... could my problem be something else?

Oh.. my doc is also setting me up for a heavy metals toxicity test. She thinks I may have heavy metals in my body that could also make me resistance to the thyroid meds...

Sounds a lot like over training. I'm guilty of it because I love to work out and push myself. Naturally high strung, I find that intense excerise keeps me sane and helps me sleep. Sound familiar? Try yoga or a medative discipline along with your workouts. Oh and Epsom salt baths! Hope this helps.

I'm right with you on this... Except in my case, I have extreme fatigue - usually starting around 2-3pm. So for me, it's become a matter of listening to my body. Closely. I think you can still have the beginning stages of adrenal fatigue, even though you aren't dead on your butt tired like I am. As I look back over several years, I had early symptoms... Until a year ago, it hit me full blown. I put on 10 quick pounds and couldn't work out at the gym like I used to. I was coming home from work and falling face first into bed at 6pm until the next morning. I went from cardio and weight training to 2 miles on the treadmill.... 2-3 times a week... WALKING, no less :( I know it's hard not to think about NOT exercising, but your body needs time to recoop and heal. You and I will both be back to where we were -but first thing's first. We have to get our bodies caught up to where our minds already are! <BR><BR>Hang in there... it'll come.

Hi! I too was going through very similar situations. I worked out a ton. I was seeing a naturopath for my Graves disease (which I unluckily got the gaining weight kind:/) I was so drained and tired and finally was diagnosed with Adrenal fatigue. My doc told me to take it easy, sleep lots, stop coffee, etc.... I did all those things but the worst part was that I was about 30 lbs overweight and couldn't make it budge. My doc told me to try exercising lighter. Ugh.... I just stressed harder at the thought. But I decided to try something totally out of my comfort zone. I went to Bikram Yoga or Hot Yoga. Weird right. Well let me tell you I did the 30 day trial and feel amazing. I loved it and what it did for me. I started losing weight again. I still walked/jogged as well but I did yoga about 4 to 5 days a week and it really did take away soooo much stress. I plan on doing it again soon since my symptoms are coming back. The first 30 days was $30 but now it will be way more. Otherwise I would have continued forever :) Try it. Either you will love it or hate it. It really is amazing. Another bonus is that my back issues went away. No more expensive chiropracters and masseuses (sp) for me. I am so not a yoga type of person but I am hooked now.

Great advice Jen... Yoga, can be one of the best things we can do for our health. I did Bikram for a few years but as I got older I found the heat to be a little too extreme.... However I was missing the good sweat that came with it, which I think is key to it's unique benefits, eventually I found a good yoga class (NY, East Village) which brought about the same benefits (and sweat) that I experienced with Bikram but without the heat. (they believe that the body should generate it's own heat) Even better was that they believed that in the spirit of yoga one should pay what one could afford... A pay what you can policy. Perhaps it was due to the full classes but within the 1st ten minutes the windows of the room would fog up and everyone was drenched by the end of class..... I have recently moved to Toronto where it has yet to be introduced (here, the old $18 a class, who can afford this! ) I miss it dearly. The studio is called YTTP, (yoga to the people), it;s a tremedous success and they have some free online session.. (but not nearly as effective as being there)

Hopefully their concept will spread making yoga more available to all..
