How To Clean A Nebulizer?

Posted By Stephanie (Long Valley, Nj) on 01/04/2022

Hi!

How do you clean a nebulizer? I have a plug in nebulizer, I tried to nebulize for viruses, but wasn't sure how much of the 5ml normal saline tube, and how much of the 3% food grade peroxide to put into the medicine cup, so I added a little of each. How much of each is correct for a sensitive person? Now I want to wash it, and wasn't sure which parts to wash, and if you wash with warm water and soap, or do you leave it in white vinegar and water in a small tub and soak for an hour?

Thank you!

Dear Stephanie,

I washed my nebulizer pieces just as you describe. I washed all of the parts that I could reasonably wash (or soak) and dry. (The long tubing cannot be easily washed but if it gets yucky they sell the tubing replacements on amazon.)

I never did use hydrogen peroxide and saline at the same time. I either used the vial of saline solution or distilled water with hydrogen peroxide in it. I don't remember the exact ratio I did. I think 3 ml of distilled water and 10 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide.
