How Do I Cover Molluscum Contagiousum?

Posted By Worriedparent (Singapore) on 07/19/2015

My 9 year old has molluscms on his face. He had a few big ones, which the dermatologist cauterized (I hadn't read up too much about it and though the molluscms have gone, I worry about the scars cause the skin around the cauterizations is black and looks like it will take years for the scars to fade). However, there are fresh ones that keep cropping up every single day. He may have around 30 of them on his cheeks and upper lip and eyelids. I tried using tea tree oil for 10 days twice. Day but it didn't help.

I have just begun using ACV but I don't know how to cover the molluscms with band aids. The question is how do I stop them from spreading. He doesn't touch his face often and uses separate towels and pillow cover but I think when he is asleep he keeps changing his head position which kind of must be causing the molluscms to spread. Most of them are the size of a small dot, not very big. Help! How do I cover them is the question. I am praying that the ACV helps cure them, hes been suffering for five months now.

Dear Worried Parent,

Covering them is only to prevent spreading. It won't help the healing along. Using bandaids on the face will only increase irritation to the face. I would continue to treat with ACV as you are, and continue the washing of bedding, towels, hands, as you are.

You might also try some vitamin C internally to help the body fight the virus better. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is also an excellent anti-viral. You could give a teaspoon or two a day if it seems to agree with him.

My niece had the worse case of MC I've ever seen! She looked absolutely diseased and had it from head to toe. her pediatrician prescribed Tagamet (yes! The over the counter antacid drug) the kid cleared up rapidly. he probably gave her prescription strength, I'm not sure. Really couldn't tell you.
