Having problems for 3 years for scalp issues and hair loss

Posted By Lainyw (Az, Usa) on 07/31/2013

Three yrs ago I had a small area on the back of my head that was itchy and painful. First treatment was for ringworm, but had no results. Referred to a dermatologist who did biopsy and was diagnosed with alopecia aereata. Injected with cortisone, area did not improve. Doc recommended putting a duo derm patch on the area. Needed to shave hair around the area, wear the patch 3 days, remove, and apply new one. Adhesive took off top layer of skin and I had a reaction ending in an infection. Now the whole crown of my head has a problem! My hair wouldn't grow normal, grew under scalp. Also the adhesive was not easily removed and I ended up having debris stuck in my scalp as my skin healed over. Saw different dermatologists and I was to crazy lady who pulled her hair out. Under my scalp I had long hairs 3-6 inches, bugs, fibers, hair balls. This has been a nightmare! I currently have some hair trying to grow in, but my scalp still feels itchy, tender and crawly. Don't know if it is from fungus or mites or both. Desperately trying to grow my hair! Suggestions? Thanks.

Dear Lainyw, I am hoping some other earth clinic readers will have some ideas... I will give you a few things that I would try if it were me or my family.

1. Tea Tree Oil/Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - 1 t. tea tree essential oil diluted in 1 T. extra virgin coconut oil, massaged into the affected area 3-4 times a day. This would be good for fungus and parasites. You can dilute it more if you like, if it is too strong. Or you could use 1/2 t. tea tree and 1/2 t. lavender, which is healing also, but not so strong smelling.

2. Black Walnut Tincture. You can take it internally and use it externally. It is good for ringworm, fungus, candida, parasites. Here is a link that talks about how to use it with some success stories, including one on the head, though the problem is different than yours.

Both of the above could be used together.

While healing, I would avoid sugar, soda, caffeine, white flour, processed foods as much as possible. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Carrot Juice would be very helpful if you had a juicer. 1/4 cup a day at first and work up to 1 cup a day. (Fresh juiced is best.)

Since Blackstrap Molasses is so nutrient dense, and is even good for the hair, I would take 1 T. of that a day.

Nettles are also very good for hair. You could drink up to a quart of nettle or nettle with peppermint tea each day. IF you drink a quart of this a day and 1 quart of water, at least, that will help your body flush stuff out. (If you don't do the tea, go for 1/2 gallon of water.)

Oh, you might want to read around earth clinic on shampoo alternatives. Shampoos with SLS and other chemicals is NOT going to be helpful and likely is harmful to healing you scalp.

To avoid re-infection, I would wash pillowcases and anything you wear on your head daily. Perhaps even add a little bleach to the wash and put in a hot dryer to help kill whatever is going on.

Please let us know how it goes.
