Have suffered for over ten years with burning mouth syndromePosted By Karen (Australia) on 09/05/2014
I am a 57 yr old post menopausal female in perfect health otherwise and on no medication.
It astounds me what this is and how to cure it. I have spend 1000's trying to get help.
Even having $1200 worth of implants thinking it was oral. OBVIOUSLY NOT! That was two years ago. Please HELP SO OVER IT.
Our daughter is to be married in 6 weeks and I want enjoy the most important day in her life BMS relieved at least.

Get your B12 tested as a deficiency can cause serve burning of the mouth...if it is a B12 deficiency it will help almost immediately. Again if it is a deficiency regular B12 injections guided by your doctor will keep it away,
I have had this ... regards Lynda

I googled "Burning Mouth Syndrome Virus" and found a number of sites that speculate the possible relationship with BMS to viral infections.
Any "mystery" illness, my first "usual suspect" is a virus... I want to get that possibility off the table right off. Other things can cause BMS...chemicals; vitamin deficiencies and you didn't mention any other symptoms you are having.
Nor did you mention any other clues to help you figure this out...like the onset of the BMS and if it came after beginning to consume prescription drugs (BP meds for instance)... or exposure to toxins of any kind.
So with no other clues...back to a virus.
If me, I'd get Colloidal Silver and hold three tablespoons in mouth and spit out...do this three times daily for a week. If a virus the burning will go away within five or six days.
I'd also try tea tree oil held in mouth or garlic oil in mouth (same thing...hold in mouth)...any anti viral... Echinacea for instance....IF CS is not available.
Now, also try this; Get a quality Aloe Vera gel (or liquid) and hold in mouth...again three times daily for a week.
Try this apart from the CS so you can tell which is helping.

Re burning mouth syndrome;
If an infection, as I suggest and as the googled sites suggest, then the Colloidal Silver could ALSO increase the stinging and burning. In fact, when applying to an infected sinus condition I usually warn that the application would likely produce an intense stinging sensation as the virus is killed.
How about the Aloe Vera suggestion?
Also I noticed you didn't answer any of the questions that might help widen the hunt for causation.
I'd think anything that might be an anti viral could cause a sensitive condition to worsen while it is killing the virus. But if the cure is worse than the condition you are certainly right in rejecting any suggestion. I'd just extend it to the CS also.
So only my suggestion of the Aloe Vera might work in relieving the burning. But likely will not eliminate the underlying cause. Of course, if it helps with the burning then you might be able to tolerate the other remedy...my highest suggestion being CS.

This is my first post after reading these forums for a while now. It would be nice to give something back to the community.
I really sympathize with you after suffering myself for about 20 years. Doctors prescribed antibiotics, antifungals, steroids and strong pain killers, but nothing worked. I gave up going back in the end and just suffered it. It would flare up for weeks at a time and it was pure hell.
It wasn't until my partner got diabetes and developed the same condition that I noticed the link. It was the aspartame in the diet sodas I was drinking, and in the artificial sweeteners he was using.
Since I religiously check for aspartame and other artificial sweeteners in everything we eat and drink now, it has never reoccurred. It has probably been 8 months now. I was also having problems with nausea and fatigue after eating. This also disappeared when I quit sweeteners.
I'm not sure whether this will apply to you, but it might help someone.

I assume you tried at least 200 mg to 300 mg Stabilized R-ALA.

I have suffered from mouth sores and cracks in the corners of my lips for many years. Started taking B complex, (also folic acid, Niacin, B6, B12) a few months ago and I am now clear. Sometimes when I have eaten something with wheat (usually try to avoid wheat and dairy) my mouth becomes very sore. I use pure olive oil soap instead of toothpaste, and I try not to eat too many sweets.
When I did have these problems I found some relief from oil pulling with sesame, sunflower or coconut oil. Rubbing olive oil on the cracks on the corners of the lips seemed to help heal them quickly. Hope this helps someone.

My lips were cracked in the corners, years ago. A dermatologist gave me an ointment. (Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was, too many years ago.) It completely cured it. The corners of my mouth have not cracked since.
