I would think the antibiotics would overwhelm any probiotics you're taking. I would wait until I had finished the script before starting back on the probiotics. And at that point (when script is done) I'd double up on the pros for a while. But I'm not a doctor. I just read stuff. Oh, and I would try to avoid taking any antibiotics in the first place unless I was in danger of losing life or limb.Replied by Sayward (Columbia City, In, Us) on 04/05/2013
Antibiotics jobs are to wipe out bacteria, and adding more bacteria, even if it is the "good guys" will just put more strain on the antibiotic, up the chances that a sufficent amount of harmful bacteria (i.e., what is making you sick ) won't be killed in the process and waste money!
When taking an antibiotic, it is important to stop taking all probiotic supplements for the duration of the treatment. The day following the last dose, one should take 1 probiotic treatment (capsule or drink), every day for 7 days and then go back to your original schedule. If one uses a daily supplement, then it is best to take two of the supplement every day for 7 days and then drop back to one.
The idea here is to feed the gut back its good guys in large enough doses to ensure they have adequate numbers to keep bad bacteria from proliferating again.
