Had root canal and have infection and bleeding from gum

Posted By Georgina (UK) on 08/30/2014

Had a root canal done couple of years ago on top front tooth, last year became infected and very sore and bleeding from gum line, started oil pulling which really helped calm down infection but still bleeds when I don't oil pull, so infection must still be there, dentist wants to open gum up and clean area but I am not happy with this. Would oil of clove be helpful. Thanks

Hi Georgina. Yes, diluted oil of clove would be excellent. Another alternative (slightly less potent) is diluted oil of oregano. Oil pulling with organic virgin coconut oil would also help. All of the above are antibiotic, antiviral and antibacterial in nature and should clean up the infection. Continue using for at least a week beyond any recognizable symptoms to ensure complete clean up. Continue oil pulling a while longer if you see continuing benefits.

Hi Georgina,

Just saw your recent post. I worked for an Endodontist (Rct specialist) for about 5 years. The symptoms you are describing, in my experience, will not clear up on their own. Home remedies are helpful for minor pain and swelling, even some types of infections, but quite possibly, not in this case. The reason I say this is, most of the patients who returned with this type of bleeding most often had a fracture somewhere below the gumline. Teeth that have had root canal therapy no longer have a blood supply, so over time become brittle and can fracture. Many people also do not realize that even though there is no nerve and the tooth may have been restored with a full coverage crown, it is still susceptible to recurrent decay. This usually presents at the margin of the crown also under the gumline. If an infection is present and left untreated the bone lose around the tooth can affect the the teeth on either side. Unfortunately the only way to determine this would be the treatment your dentist suggested. With that said, I could be totally off base and it could turn out to be something not so serious. Not knowing how much your dentist explained, I hope this shed some light on the subject. Many blessings and best of luck, Teri

CDS/MMS/Chlorine-di-oxide solution will penetrate deeper and clear any infection.
