What Remedies Can Help Rectal Bleeding Caused by Glycerin Suppositories?

Posted By Val (Michigan) on 02/27/2016

Hello;.

Of course when I went to the bathroom yesterday I was praying the toilet that was filled with blood was me restarting my period. So i put on a pad in case. I thought menopause... But something was telling me it was possibly in my bowels. Scared as hell, i thought of everything that could have caused this. Being that i stay constipated i use this liquid glycerin suppositories every other day or two or sometimes back to back. Trying to weigh out my issue because i would rather try something natural in terms of healing this issue rather than going to the doctor first. Are there any recommendations out there? i noticed the blood has reduced when i went this morning. The bleeding is still there when I go to the bathroom, but it's nowhere near what it was yesterday after using the laxative. Are there any at-home remedies I can try first before seeking medical treatment?

Dear Val,

While I think the bleeding could be a side effect of the suppositories, since you have a constipation issues, I would also suspect hemorrhoids, which can cause bleeding.

A lot of bleeding concerns me though and I would be inclined to suggest a medical opinion. If you are having bleeding in your digestive tract for any reason, it is easy to become anemic.

If you are wanting to take charge of your health, this site is going to be a great resource for you. Start with reading the constipation pages and see what you can do to improve your health.

Constipation like that is a clear sign you are not getting adequate probiotics. More than half the bulk of feces is not digested food material, it is bacteria. When your intestinal flora suffers, you suffer. Constipation allows bad bacteria to have more control over you and this can lead to colon cancer. Certain bacterial strains create toxins which are incredibly carcinogenic. An abundance of friendly bacteria keep them in check and flush them out of the intestinal tract. The result is free bowel movements not constant straining to pass feces. The pressure needed to force feces out can easily lead to hemorrhoids. When they break open they bleed profusely at times. An herb called butchers broom helps control bleeding, but the real answer is correct your intestinal flora then you don't have that problem.
